Job Description
About the role:
Takeda's summer internship program blends real world experience with an extensive overview of the pharmaceutical industry. Knowledgeable mentors will provide guidance as you gain professional hands-on experience. The summer internship program is 12 weeks in length and offers a unique perspective into a world-class pharmaceutical company. Compensation is competitive, we offer $18/hour to $45/hour, depending on students level in their undergraduate program and level professional experience. Our internship program also provides you the opportunity to network with people at Takeda through various planned events and activities.
Project Outline:
The intern will join the Research Portfolio & Governance team that is responsible for portfolio management activities and governance frameworks across all core therapeutic areas (Oncology, Neurosciences, Gastroenterology and Rare Diseases) for Takeda’s Research organization. The Research Portfolio & Governance team is a part of the Research Strategy & Operations function. The intern can be offered various project opportunities tailored to their background, expertise and interests including but not limited to the following:
1. Analytics for Operations Optimization: The Research Portfolio & Governance function collects a large amount of operational data such as time and cost of development etc. on Takeda's diverse pipeline programs. The project would involve studying the large volume of data using analytical approaches to identify trends and opportunities for optimization of operations to maximize the productivity of Takeda’s Research organization.
2. Portfolio Data Visualization: The project would involve understanding the different parameters at play relevant to Takeda's rich, diverse and dynamic Research portfolio and creating a library of innovative data visuals to depict the portfolio and its characteristics.
3. Success Stories in Pharma: R&D productivity in the pharmaceutical industry is declining and the industry is increasingly leaning on innovative ways to drive success. The project would involve collecting, analyzing, and documenting successful cases of drug discovery and development emerging from Takeda and other companies in the industry to use as case studies and understand key success factors.
In addition, our team would be pleased to offer the following training and networking opportunities to the student:
a. Demonstration of how drug discovery and development in industry takes place
b. Networking with colleagues in the global Research Strategy & Operations function with diverse backgrounds
c. Each project would provide the student the opportunity to develop project management, communication, and presentation skills
The ideal candidate exhibits strong analytical, problem-solving, and oral and written communication skills, and possesses the ability to work well in teams. This is a hybrid work opportunity with primary location as Cambridge, MA.

What you bring to Takeda:
- Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis
- Must be available full time (40 hours/week) a minimum of 12 weeks during the Summer months
- Minimum GPA 3.0/4.0
- Undergraduate, Graduate, PhD, MD student with at least one year of university studies before internship.
- Return to university for at least one semester post-internship
- Takeda does not provide student housing or housing stipends
Salary & Location:
- Intern pay rate ranges are from $18/hour to $45/hour, depending on students level in their undergraduate or graduate program and level professional experience.
