SUMMARY
Provide environmental public affairs/journalism support to the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center’s Public Affairs Office.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Includes the following:
- Create written and visual communication products, such as fact sheets, news stories, press releases, campaigns, infographics, etc.
- Research, gather, evaluate and interpret technical information for journalism products, technical documents and analysis tools
- Communicate professionally in person, on the phone and email with clients, environmental subject matter experts and stakeholders
- Assist with data management projects through research, reporting and tracking vital information
- Assist in planning and executing high-level meetings and events, to include recording meeting minutes and developing meeting agendas, presentations and other informational materials.
- Fact check and perform quality assurance/quality control on completed products
- Assess current communication platforms, evaluate effectiveness and make recommendations for improvement
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a self-starter with excellent time management and interaction skills and possess a willingness to learn
- The ability to work independently and in a team setting
- Required proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, Excel)
- InDesign, Photoshop and Adobe design software is strongly preferred
- Experience with SharePoint, OneDrive and project management software preferred
- Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Experience with writing/editing i.e. journalism and technical writing
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- In-depth knowledge of AP style and experienced editing capabilities are highly preferred
- The ability to pass a drug screen and background check is required.

- Pursuant to U.S. Presidential Executive Order 14042, Cherokee Federal is now requiring that all employees be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by December 8th. An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after the second dose of a two-dose vaccine (i.e., Moderna or Pfizer) or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine (i.e., Johnson & Johnson). As a prospective employee, you will fall under this requirement and proof of vaccination will be needed for on-boarding, should you be selected. When you originally applied to our position posting, this necessity may not have yet been implemented. Limited exemptions for religious or medical reasons will be considered.
- On Tuesday, Dec. 7, a federal judge issued an injunction blocking President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for federal contractors (EO 14042). Cherokee Federal is monitoring the court case and awaiting a final ruling. As a result of the injunction, Cherokee Federal is halting the enforcement of the mandate, however, if the injunction is lifted and the mandate remains, Cherokee Federal must reenact its vaccine requirement.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- 1-3 years communications/multimedia/public affairs or public relations experience
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, or similar field required
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Must be able to work remotely with a remote team
- Some travel (less than 25%) required
- The ability to pass a drug screen and background check is required

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000 Salary
