Summary of Major Responsibilities:

We are seeking a highly motivated Machine Learning Intern (MA/MD-based or remote) to join the Biostatistics and Informatics team. You will leverage multiple assay data to lead the development of machine learning methods to enable earlier cancer localization from liquid biopsy. You will conduct analyses on rich, high-dimensional data to drive the development of a state-of-the-art AI engine to predict cancer tissue of origin. In close collaboration with machine learning scientists, statisticians, data scientists, and technology teams, you will help build high quality, scalable solutions to address a critical unmet medical need.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Find cancer tissue of origin signal in blood-based multiple assay data.
  • Develop machine learning models and AI solutions to explore the accuracy of early cancer localization, including, but not limited to: feature engineering, statistical analysis, understanding classifier performance, and ensuring fit-for-purpose.
  • Explore a variety of metrics to evaluate cancer localization models.
  • Partner with machine learning scientists, statisticians, data scientists, and technology teams to develop a cancer localization prototype for the CancerSEEK product.
  • Communicate results in internal and external forums to support scientific, regulatory and business objectives.
  • Uphold company mission and values through accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and teamwork.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Computational Biology, Applied Mathematics or related quantitative fields, preferably with a focus on artificial intelligence or machine learning in junior or senior standing.
  • 3+ years’ experience programming and computing skills (e.g., Python, R).
  • 1+ year’s experience with supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms and ensemble methods (e.g., using scikit-learn package).
  • Intellectual curiosity and the ability to learn quickly in a complex space, and be willing to work in dynamic, fast-paced, creative, collaborative and data-driven team.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree with a focus on artificial intelligence or machine learning.
  • At least one significant project leveraging machine learning (ML) methods or models.
  • Strong programming and computing skills (e.g, Python, R).
  • Previous experience with cancer diagnostics or healthcare data analyses.
  • Familiar with cancer biology, technical proficiency and creativity, and a strong capacity for innovative thinking.
