THE POSITION

Start Date: May 25, 2021 (Summer 2021)

Work Hours: 40 hours per week

Length of Assignment: 3 months

Education Level: Bachelor's (must be enrolled in or completed their 2nd year), Master's

Preferred Majors/Disciplines: Engineering; Master in Public Health

Given the current uncertainty of the global pandemic and work from home situation for 2021, this internship is currently planned to be virtual with the option for interns to work remotely from within the U.S. Borders. We will keep candidates informed if this changes.

At this time, due to the ever changing situation concerning the COVID-19 global pandemic, for our summer 2021 internship program we will only consider international candidates who are currently in the US and will remain in the US for the duration of the internship.

Job Description/Responsibilities

The intern will be responsible for creating safety signage inventory by campus area upper, lower, mid-campus, south campus, etc.The internship will be a tiered approach:

  • Scope & Assessment - the intern is expected to conduct a thorough scope of each building on SSF campus and create a safety signage inventory by location. The inventory shall become a tool that EHS, D&C, Workplace Effectiveness, etc. shall be able to utilize and update in the future.

  • Design & Construction - The intern will submit a D&C project to initiate safety signage replacement to ANSI/OSHA standards. The intern will work with the D&C project manager and vendor (Sarkis) with signage design and replacement. The Intern will ensure the signage designs meet PTAA Safety Signage guidelines and ANSI/OSHA regulatory requirements.

  • Documentation of Signage - The intern will have the opportunity to learn EHS program management; this includes program revision writing.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Familiar with OSHA regulations and ANSI standards

  • Ability to take ownership of projects and drive them through to completion

  • Highly effective at building internal and external relationships

  • Advanced in Excel, PowerPoint, Google tools

  • Self-starter with an agile mindset & hands-on mentality who navigates and takes advantage of ambiguity to seek the most effective and sustainable outcomes

  • Process-oriented with strong analytical skills
