Advocate Aurora Health’s Brand, Consumer Experience and Public Affairs Department is seeking candidates for their undergraduate Public Affairs and Marketing Operations internship. To be eligible, a student must be pursuing a degree in public relations, journalism/mass communications, marketing, healthcare administration and/or digital and multimedia communications and have an interest in gaining interdisciplinary experience in a health care setting. This internship is a remote position.


Brief Department Overview:

Advocate Aurora Health’s Brand, Consumer Experience and Public Affairs Department manages the following key areas:


  • Public Affairs and Operations: Focus on media strategy and media pitching, local/national profile building, social media, writing for health enews and overall site or system strategic communications. Management of all social media platforms and content creation. Promotion of internal communication initiatives and health awareness campaigns.
  • Brand, Growth and Consumer First Marketing: Develop and execute strategic marketing plans to build consumer awareness and drive business goals. Work closely with teams at the site level and/or across Advocate Aurora’s system to assess services and opportunities, analyze competitive environment, and determine core strategies. Analyzes primary and secondary consumer research and trends. Brand services team provides creative support for video, photography and design assets.
  • Consumer Experience: Focus on management of Advocate Aurora websites, apps, health technology and managing the consumer journey in the digital space. Includes digital transformation, consumer experience, web design and marketing technology.


Product Marketing Internship Overview:

The Public Affairs and Marketing Operations Internship provides practical work experiences to college students to support Advocate Aurora Health’s organizational strategies. The intern will be exposed to a variety of areas in the Public Affairs and Marketing realm with a focus on public affairs, internal communications, media relations, brand journalism, content creation and more. The department will further develop specific job standards and guidelines for the internship role.


Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with various internal communications vehicles, including provider and internal newsletters, announcements, digital signage and more.
  • Develop content and/or translate provided content/messages into compelling, concise, targeted and easy to understand original copy that is appropriate for the audience and communication vehicle, including newsletters, video and web.
  • Develops copy for internal and external communication materials for promotional and educational applications that supports the system, regional and local priority areas.
  • Exposure to creative marketing, digital asset creation, video production, portfolio development, writing copy, sourcing team members for photo shoots.
  • Boost writing and editorial skills by assisting on a variety of external communications initiatives, including writing for Advocate Aurora’s daily health and wellness website, health enews, which involves interviewing and interacting with physicians and clinicians on a regular basis.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for public affairs, marketing, writing and health care
  • College/university junior or senior, or recent graduate, obtaining BA/BS/MBA in public relations, marketing, journalism/mass communications or equivalent area of focus
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Self-motivated and effective task manager
  • High level of creativity and ability to think outside of the box
  • Ability to work independently and think critically
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Access to a reliable internet connection, computer, webcam, and phone for video calls
