About the role:

Takeda's summer internship program blends real world experience with an extensive overview of the pharmaceutical industry. Knowledgeable mentors will provide guidance as you gain professional hands-on experience. The summer internship program is 12 weeks in length and offers a unique perspective into a world-class pharmaceutical company. Our internship program also provides you the opportunity to network with people at Takeda through various planned events and activities.

Project Outline:

Identification of patient-level baseline prognostic factors and early on-treatment information can be leveraged to predict longer term survival benefit in cancer therapy studies and support early development decisions. Intern will explore whether tumor dynamic metrics and patient baseline parameters can correlate with efficacy endpoints such as progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) to help decide between different treatment arms and therapies. Various regression models, including machine learning models, will be compared for performance. In addition, intern will be responsible for developing an R shiny app to automate this analysis. The easy-to-use app will help in predicting PFS/OS from input parameters and may help identify patients that will most likely respond to various therapies.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Undergraduate or graduate level student in Biostatistics, Pharmacometrics, Biomedical or Chemical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related discipline
  • Strong knowledge of quantitative/statistical approaches (such as machine learning models) that can be applied in drug development
  • Hands-on experience with statistical modeling and/or pharmacometrics modeling
  • Proficient in R or python
  • Working knowledge of nonlinear mixed-effects modeling and Monolix is preferred

What you bring to Takeda:

  • Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis
  • Must be available full time (40 hours/week) a minimum of 12 weeks during the Summer months
  • Minimum GPA 3.0/4.0
  • Undergraduate, Graduate, PhD, MD student with at least one year of university studies before internship.
  • Return to university for at least one semester post-internship
  • Takeda does not provide student housing or housing stipends

Salary & Location:

  • Intern pay rate ranges are from $18/hour to $45/hour, depending on students level in their undergraduate or graduate program and level professional experience.
  • Location is COVID-19 dependent, remote applicants may apply.
