Intern, Standard Development
The International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) is in search of an intern interested in learning more about the ways our buildings, organizations and communities can be designed and operated to help all individuals thrive. You'll support the Standard Development team in advancing the WELL Building Standard™ (WELL), a performance-based system for measuring, certifying and monitoring features of buildings that impact the health and well-being of the individuals who live, work and learn in them.
In this role, you'll have the opportunity to work alongside a diverse team of public health professionals, engineers and designers and learn about various concepts at the intersection of health and the environment, including air quality, water quality, nutrition, light, movement, sound, thermal comfort, materials, mental health and community.
Please note this is a Summer/Fall internship beginning in June with possibility of extension through Winter.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in conducting basic research and literature reviews of various topics related to the ten WELL concepts
- Assess and organize various types of information and/or data, including public health, socio-economic, demographic and market research data
- Synthesize and collate various evidence in a concise and effective manner
- Support concept advisory call presentations, communications and note-taking
- Assist with source management in large documents using EndNote citation management software
- Assist in editing and preparing articles, presentations and webcasts
Candidate Profile and Prerequisites:
- Senior Bachelor's degree candidate, Bachelor's degree holder, Master's degree candidate or four years of experience in Public Health, Urban Studies, Engineering, Architecture, Environmental Science, Environmental Health, Urban Design or closely related field
- Technical writing skills with a strong ability to synthesize various types of information (research, public health, guidelines, etc.) as reflected in the submitted writing sample
- Attention to detail, organizational skills and commitment to delivering high-quality work
- Ability to thrive in self-managed and team-based (remote) work
- Generally available for work during east-coast business hours
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of writing formulas and reports using tables and pivot tables in Excel
- Experience with EndNote or other citation management software
- Completion of 3 public health or 3 building science courses
- Experience reviewing large data sets and documents for accuracy and/or consistency
Compensation: This is a paid internship. Hourly rates are competitive and commensurate with prior experience.
