Role:

Do you have a passion for building data-driven products? Do you want to be part of an innovative team that is building the next generation of data-driven products for IT, Security, and Business Analytics? The Core Products group at Splunk is looking for a product management intern to work closely with our PM and engineering teams to help define and implement best-in-class data experiences for our customers.

You thrive in a dynamic environment and have a track record of technical expertise and product responsibility. You will get to work with a super smart bunch of folks who are doing state of the art development work (both native mobile and mobile back-end) in areas of machine learning, data analytics, and event correlations across silos to build best-in-class business analytics software.

Responsibilities:

As a User Research Intern you will be responsible for …

  • Handle the design, administration, and execution of research studies with some guidance.
  • Partner with UX team members, including managers on research execution and/or design workshops.
  • Partner effectively with product management, engineering, and product marketing.
  • Proficient in primary research methods such as: running lab studies, conducting user interviews, synthesizing past research, managing datasets, etc.
  • Create deliverables in the form of engaging reports or other materials as needed by the project team.
  • Share research insights with cross-functional partners to create a smarter, more informed, and more empathetic team.
  • Unafraid of creating new systems and processes as needed.
  • This is a very hands-on role, and includes managing participant recruitment, data collection (includes moderating sessions), data synthesis and analysis, and delivery of findings and recommendations.

Requirements:

  • Have an understanding of planning and executing different types of research and usability testing activities
  • Degree in the field of HCI, Human Factors, Usability Engineering, Design, Anthropology, Behavioral Psychology or a related field (advanced degree a plus)
  • Strong sense of independence, ownership, and initiative with an ability to self-direct
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and presentation skills
  • Understanding of the strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during each product phase
  • Not afraid of ambiguity and willing to learn new skills is a plus
  • You enjoy working well with others in a fast-paced environment
  • You enjoy working within an agile environment
  • You bring enthusiasm for solving interesting problems

Education:

Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Product Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Usability Engineering or a related technical field, and strong record of academic achievement. Must be graduating December 2022 or later.
