Criterion Systems, Inc., is seeking a results-oriented, self-motivated Junior Network Engineer to support a Department of Commerce (DOC) contract at the Federal Customer site in Washington, DC. Your primary duties for this position include (but not limited to) designing and planning network communications systems. Provides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture. Provides specific implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements. Conducts testing of network design. Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. Evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network.


Network Engineer with experience in network engineering, network operations, network performance tools/analysis, project management, and systems integration. The successful candidate will operate in a team setting, collaborating with the Network Operations staff on projects and troubleshooting complex issues, as well as providing O&M support during core business hours and will be required to share on call duties with other teammates.

Responsibilities:
  • Plan and/or execute the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, training and maintenance of hardware and software systems, network cybersecurity, load-balancing, and alternate routing/continuity of operations.
  • Plan and/or execute all network infrastructure upgrades, ensuring all data interfaces and transit points are compliant with FIPS and FISMA standards.
  • Install, maintain and enhance network and systems equipment, services, and/or maintain technical documentation or procedures as needed.
  • Manage and load balance network/systems resources for optimum performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability.
  • Implement and maintain security protocols, procedures, software patches, and tools to ensure compliance with the agency’s established configuration baseline.
  • Develop, document, and/or maintain systems administration standard operating procedures.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot and/or resolve hardware/software interface and interoperability problems.
  • Ensure systems availability, functionality, integrity, and efficiency.
  • Install and integrate systems fixes, updates, and enhancements.
  • Ensure the rigorous application of information security and information assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of systems administration services.
  • Maintain an archive of network/systems configuration documentation for equipment in the agency.
  • Develop, maintain and archive disaster recovery documentation per the agency’s standards and support all objectives for continuity of operations.
  • Monitor and analyze audit logs, report any irregularities to management.
  • Provide on-call support after hours and weekends. Requires carrying on-call phone.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of an undergraduate (Bachelors) degree in Information Technology, Information Systems Management, Computer Science, or a related field from an accredited University.
  • Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in a large enterprise network environment.
  • Experience with Cisco hardware implementation, maintenance, and support.
  • Knowledge of WAN, LAN, TCP/IP, Firewalls, Routers, Switches and troubleshooting these devices
    Experience implementing Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs).
  • Knowledge of Azure cloud systems management.
  • Experience with Wireless technologies and Cisco Wireless LAN deployment.
  • Understand application transport and network infrastructure protocols (SSL/TLS, DNS, DHCP, WINS, NTP, FTP, HTTP, SMTP, CIFS, LDAP, and Microsoft AD) and their relationship to user applications.
  • Written and oral communications skills with a particular emphasis on the ability to provide documentation for network projects and troubleshooting.
