The Pharmacy Business Intern I is responsible for providing ongoing coordination support for the Brigham and Women’s Hospital 340B Outpatient purchasing and mixed-use Pharmacy Programs. The Interns key areas of responsibility will include but are not be limited to oversight of 340B drug purchasing, inventory processes, market analyses, data review, and all areas of regulatory compliance. The Intern may be asked to assist in additional areas of the pharmacy when needed.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Complete “340B University” (no cost, online)
- Develop a thorough understanding of the 340B drug pricing program
- Review program policies and procedures
- Support pharmacy analysts on projects as needed
- Contribute to the maintenance of internal data systems
- Using Excel or a comparable data management program, gather and organize data for external and internal requests
- Provide support for internal meetings and activities
- Evaluate patient eligibility for qualified and non-qualified patients in mixed-use areas and clinics by reviewing patient medical records, insurance plans, and hospital status.
- Maintain tools and reports that can be used to educate staff and assist management in tracking the overall financial impact to the organization. Build other reports, as appropriate, to monitor and improve 340B program compliance and performance.
- Organize and Maintain copies of reports for compliance and audit purposes.
- Contribute to appropriate financial metrics to assess areas of improvement.
- Support pharmacy buyers in managing drug selection, procurement, and inventory control.
- Develop a thorough understanding of the split-billing system and the functions to be performed
- Develop and foster working relationships with internal working counterparts (IT, Revenue Operations, Revenue Integrity, Compliance, Accounting, and others) to facilitate productive exchanges of information to improve program efficiency and promote program compliance. Provide data, information, and reports as needed for other business units within the organization.
Qualifications
- Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, healthcare or related field required
- Actively pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Health Administration (MHA), or related graduate level degree a plus
- Direct experience in financial or compliance data management a plus
Skills and Abilities Required
- Database & BI software competencies (Access, Tableau, Qlik, SAS, Excel, SQL etc)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively navigate a complex organization
Working Conditions
