As one of the premier baseball training facilities in the world, it is Driveline’s mission to bring out the best version of every player, coach, and employee that we interact with.

What Does Success Look Like?
At Driveline, success is predicated on the results we achieve with our athletes as well as the ability of our own team to:
  • Stay on the cutting edge at the intersection of player development and analytics.
  • Scale highly technical insights to athletes and 3rd party consumers in a concise and digestible manner.

What Will You Work On?
To accomplish the two directives above, a Baseball Operations Intern will spend their time working on projects like:
  • Improving our Advanced Scouting Offerings for MLB Clients
  • Answering discrete internal R&D based questions and requests from the pitching floor, hitting floor, and HP floor on topics ranging from biomechanics to sabermetrics.
  • Leveraging Collegiate Data and Driveline’s platform to provide amateur coaches and players with professional-grade tools, models, and insights
  • Validating and pairing new 3rd party technologies
  • Finding new data streams, as well as maintaining and improving existing data pipelines for various third-party API/data streams and internal databases
  • Writing blogs that communicate internal findings to the larger baseball community

What Will We Provide You?
This is a hands-on opportunity to interface directly with some of the premier coaches, athletes, and analysts in the world on a daily basis.

This isn’t a front-office position where you’ll be working on one project that may or may not reach production-level by the end of the Summer.

For this reason and others, the vast majority of our former interns in R&D have found success breaking into the industry full-time or staying on with Driveline in some capacity.

What Are You Really Good At?
  • Writing in major programming languages like R and/or Python (specifically, experience with data analysis and visualization)
  • Maintaining and exploring databases (MySQL experience preferred)
  • Working with Statcast Data and understanding the nuances of publicly available pitch-level datasets
  • Constructing and deploying machine learning models in production level code
  • Translating highly technical topics into digestible information for coaches and athletes

What Are You Even Better At?
  • Asking novel and relevant questions about the game of baseball that push our industry forward

Requirements
  • Must be able to stand for 4+ hours straight
  • Must be able to lift 50+ pounds

End of Internship
Full-time roles are not guaranteed at the completion of an internship. Candidates will be evaluated on an individual basis for full-time roles or internship extensions.
