Job summary/overview

We are looking for a motivated and aspiring Visual Designer to join our team as an intern to assist in crafting compelling, meaningful experiences that enable our users to achieve their business objectives. Core responsibilities include the visual design of icons, referenceable page designs, design patterns, and other related assets for incorporation into a common style guide for use by development teams. Candidates must have the experience and ability to demonstrate insights from ethnographic and usability data, analyze both stated and emerging requirements, know how to effectively communicate design motivations/decisions to various stakeholders, and work in a professional and collaborative manner within a cross-functional team to achieve project goals.

The ideal candidate is passionate about interaction design and curious about the evolving space of user experience design. This highly creative thinker can communicate design concepts through pencil through high-fidelity sketches, storyboards, wireframes, and business presentations. A person in this position must be able to produce design consistent with the user’s experience in the broader product suite. An understanding of what is possible in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is key. A portfolio is a must in order to be considered for this opportunity. Your portfolio should demonstrate creative problem-solving solutions in the context of software (including content web sites) and display an ability to deliver simple, engaging, and empowering user experiences.

Essential duties/responsibilities

  • Produce engaging, user experiences that allow users to accomplish their tasks easily and efficiently. Achieve these goals while still fulfilling stated business requirements, project goals, and product vision.
  • Work with Product Management to understand product requirements and turn them into buildable user experiences
  • Collaborate with other designers, user researchers, business analysts, and software engineers to enable the design process encouraging productive dialog and helping the design team to tackle design problems as they arise.
  • Participate in concept development and design ideation for new product features.
  • Employ established UX patterns and conventions in designed experiences.
  • Produce design results including user flows, sketches at various levels of fidelity, wireframes, journey maps, and other similar tools to demonstrate and to aid the validation of proposed design solutions.
  • Document the details from design related meetings and document design deliverables
  • This position includes levels of involvement in user research activities

Job requirements and qualifications

Education:

  • Recently completed Bachelor’s or in-progress Master’s degree in interaction design, industrial design, visual design, HCI, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Tried skills in interaction design and comprehension of overall user experience principles.
  • Exposure to professional design experience, including user experience design of web applications. Mobile experience is a strong plus.
  • Strong online, or distributable, portfolio/work samples that demonstrate a high-level of proficiency in interaction design for business applications of a similar complexity to the HCM Enterprise Software domain.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and design for the least rudimentary business tasks and supporting technologies. Must possess good writing, presentation, and time management skills.
  • Must be professional and a proactive teammate
  • Must be able to work creatively with cross-functional teams to prioritize UX issues and review the results of user research.
  • Must possess shown working experience with appropriate design tools such as Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, OmniGraffle, and Balsamiq.
  • Possess an understanding of what is reasonably possible to achieve within the boundaries of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines
  • High degree of self-motivation to learn new methodologies that will enhance job performance
  • Experience employing user experience practices in the of Agile/Lean methodologies preferred

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Able to be diplomatic when working with both internal stakeholders, partners and other end-customers

Capable of expertly giving and taking feedback

Capable of producing clear and precise documentation

Able to present/communicate designs to UX team members and partners like BA’s and PM’s.

Candidates should demonstrate an ability to quickly get up to speed on our core business and other areas of our business as we grow rapidly in existing and new markets
