User Experience Intern

Assurant is seeking current graduate students who are passionate about User Experience (UX) and Human Centered Design and looking to purse internship in Summer 2022. The User Experience Intern will be responsible for participating in user research, UX audits, analyzing requirements, competitor studies; and collaborating with other designers and product stakeholders to design highly innovative concepts and experiences communicated in the form of wire frames and prototypes.

This role requires a confident and creative individual with a versatile set of hands-on skills able to collaborate with fellow UX designers, and technologists on a cooperative, digital agency-like team. The candidate must ensure that the design of a system not only satisfies the functionality that the user requires, but also considers the emotions that those pieces of functionality will invoke.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Working towards a master’s degree program in User Experience, Human Factors, Interaction Design, Visual Communication, or related field.
  • Ability to produce functional low/high fidelity visual design prototypes in Figma or similar design tool.
  • Experience translating design concepts and constraints into elegant and intuitive high-fidelity wireframes, interaction mockups, user experience flows, and functional UI prototypes.
  • Basic understanding of agile/product scrum or a digital agency environment.
  • You're a great storyteller - verbally, visually, in writing, and behaviorally. Can generate and communicate your research, conceptual ideas, attractive designs, and design rationale; all within a structured user-centered design process.
  • Thrives in an environment that requires independent self-direction. Proactively updates colleagues on active initiatives. Completes most tasks with minimal guidance.
  • You are a natural problem solver with the ability to thrive on juggling multiple demands, prioritizing multiple concurrent initiatives, and adapting quickly to change.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills. Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including technical developers, marketers, business leaders, and end users.
  • You can show off an eye-popping portfolio of your recent and relevant UX/UI work, demonstrating high standards of aesthetic and interactive skills.

Additional Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of essential front-end technologies HTML/CSS/JavaScript, Material Design.
  • Understanding of ADA accessibility compliance standards as part of the design deliverables.
  • Understand moderated and unmoderated user testing phases to encourage data driven design approach.
  • Familiarity with AB testing, impression testing is preferable.
  • Attention to detail and passion of creative visual designs.
  • Functional understanding of enterprise-wide Design Systems.
  • Thorough understanding of user-centered design methodologies and processes, including but not limited to persona creation, journey maps, wireframing, usability testing, etc.
  • Creativity, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
  • Strong conceptualization ability, strong visual communication ability and sketching skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-managed and motivated.
  • Be familiar with Adobe Creative Suite and other UI design tools.
  • Any UX certifications are a bonus (NNG, HFI etc.).
