As a Customer Success Operations Intern, you will develop and expand your current skill set, applying what you have learned to the day-to-day operations of the Customer Success organization. You will work cross functionally to understand transactional and behavioral patterns which drive decision making. You will have a direct impact on the customer experience by ensuring the Customer Success team have the processes and data they need to ensure high customer satisfaction and value.

As a member of the Customer Success organization, you will be right in the middle of that transformation.

What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?

We are looking for an analytical, self-starter who can translate data into trends and actionable insights. You are organized and comfortable working in a fast-paced, start-up style environment. You will partner with the Customer Success team as well as other primary business functions to analyze and identify areas of improvement. We are looking for someone excited to tackle data challenges at VMware exploiting the value of relational data and learning to tell stories with data.

Success in the Role: What are the performance goals you will work toward completing?

Understand the basics of Customer Success Operations and develop Customer Success expertise:

  • Complete a well-organized onboarding plan to better understand the VMware business and related Customer Success goals
  • Build your own knowledge of Customer Success best practices and KPIs
  • Work closely with Customer Success Operations teams to provide valuable insights to our Customer Success team to allow them to serve our customers better
  • Consult with the key functions of Customer Success to understand unique needs and ensure alignment across the organization

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

As part of VMware’s Customer Success Operations team, you will:

  • Perform regular data analysis and present key findings to Customer Success leadership
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiencies within the Customer Success organization using relational data
  • Tell data-driven stories using industry-standard data visualization practices and tools
  • Participate in special projects to drive business objectives and process standardization
  • Develop strong cross-functional relationships

What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

Matthew (Matt) Mulhern is a Sr. Mgr of Customer Success Operations and is a 7-year VMware veteran. He began as a Sales Operations Analyst just a couple years removed from college and has worked his way into a senior manager role in Customer Success Operations. Matt has a Masters degree in Analytics from Villanova University and uses that knowledge in his work to use relational data to its fullest value and have informed conversations with supporting data science teams about predictive and prescriptive analytic solutions.

The Customer Success team is made of up versatile professionals who are willing and able to learn new technologies. Remote: this role is fully remote and can be done anywhere in EST or CST time zones within the United States.
