Job Description:
The DigITs (Digital Informatics & Technology Solutions) team at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) is seeking interns ready to immerse themselves in how technology and informatics solutions can make an actionable impact in the fight against cancer.

The 11-week program partners interns with DigITs Mentors to explore MSK’s constantly evolving digital enterprise through interesting project work. Further, the program provides foundational knowledge and learning opportunities to explore how technology is an integral part of research, learning, and patient care.
A final project brings interns together to work as a team to complete a Hackathon Challenge and present their contributions to DigITs Executive Leadership.

You need:
Intern applicants must be enrolled as a student in an undergraduate bachelor’s degree program for the calendar year 2022-2023; preferably entering Junior or Senior year.

Project Focus Areas:

Product Development / Design Thinking

  • Design thinking is a process for solving problems by prioritizing the consumer's needs above all else. Product development refers to all stages involved in bringing a product from concept or idea through market release and beyond.
  • Assist in collecting and prioritizing technologies and uses cases through market research to identify and track key tech trends that have great potential impact on oncology care. Experimentation may consist of conducting proof of technology experiments to define capabilities and limitations of existing tech and conducting proof of concept experiments to discover, develop and assess new tech and capabilities red in a useful and shareable manner.

Data / Analytics / AI & ML

  • Work alongside teams who design, develop and program methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze data to generate actionable insights and solutions that impact patient outcomes and biomedical research.
  • Work alongside teams who explore, build, train, and test complex models, apply principles of machine learning in the production or evaluation of new tools.
  • Work alongside interdisciplinary teams on the implementation of the enterprise data strategy

Engineering (Front End / Data/ QA / Infrastructure / DevOps / Application Design)

  • Work alongside teams responsible for the computer solutions used in clinical, therapeutic, research, and administrative operations. These solutions are provided through the licensing and customization of commercially available applications, as well as custom applications developed by software engineers at MSK.

Enterprise Systems Architecture

  • Teams within this area architect world-class, innovative, integrated, scalable and balanced solutions that realize MSK’s strategies for transforming cancer care. Our operating model is organized to turn Vision into Outcomes by enabling deployment of innovative digital products and creating a foundation for growth through well-defined platform architectures and guidance.

Clinical / Health Informatics

  • Work alongside teams who handle a suite of clinical information systems including the electronic health record, ancillary systems, and tools that enable decision support, health information exchange and knowledge management.

Scientific Computing / High Performance Computing / Computational Biology

  • Teams within this area provide and operate the exceptional cloud and local high-speed computing and networking assets required to support the rapid processing of significant quantities of clinical and scientific data created by a preeminent basic and translational research facility.

Communications / Marketing / Customer Relations

  • Assist in project coordination, creative ideation, communications development, timeline management, and deployment and tracking of materials across internal communication channels. They will further assist with administrative and operational needs.

Project Management / Business Administration

  • Participate in various aspects of projects and/or operations for designated program or department. Manages projects and project timelines, presents recommendations, and disseminates appropriate information.
