Recreation Services Intern
Under the direction of the Recreation Program Supervisor, the Recreation Services Intern will gain understanding of detailed aspects in recreation administration, operations, programming, special events, and front desk management by assisting with a variety of projects at the Dublin Community Recreation Center (DCRC).
The successful candidate will gain professional skills including problem solving, customer service and professionalism, as well as an understanding of the roles, duties and responsibilities of a full-time professional and the people they serve in the parks and recreation profession.
Availability Requirements:
Must be available to work in-person in Dublin, Ohio (no remote opportunities at this time)- Availability to work throughout the school year with the option to stay on through the summer if desired
- Outside of the work week, interns may be asked to work evenings and weekends as needed to support City-sponsored events
- Interns are expected to work 12-20 hours per week during the school year and may be permitted to work a full-time schedule during breaks subject to the approved budget
- Undergraduate Freshman: $12.00/hour
- Undergraduate Sophomore: $12.50/hour
- Undergraduate Junior: $13.00/hour
- Undergraduate Senior: $13.50/hour
- 1st Year Graduate Student: $14.50/hour
- 2nd Year Graduate Student: $16.00/hour
Primary Focus: It is the objective of Recreation staff and supervisors to involve interns with programs, projects, events, and opportunities that broaden their learning experience and provide comprehensive exposure to the general operations of Dublin's division of Recreation Services. Through weekly meetings, Recreation supervisors propose work projects to correlate with and best support the intern's school internship requirements and development goals.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Support the implementation of programs and daily logistics for various areas and groups within the DCRC, including Operations, Preschool/Youth, Teens, and Older Adults- Coordinate daily mail collection between City Buildings
- Research, create, and maintain the DCRC's monthly Culture Corner display
- Conduct cost study comparisons on other facilities and provide findings to staff
- Track and analyze group fitness attendance using Excel
- Assist the Senior Center with the facilitation of monthly boxed-lunch and bingo programs
Minimum Qualifications:
Currently pursuing an Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Recreation Administration, Sports & Leisure, Public Administration or related field- Possession of a valid driver's license
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
- Work effectively in both a team environment as well as independently in order to successfully manage multiple tasks and work projects
- Interest in and knowledge of recreation programming and operations
- Previous office-related experience including research and organizational skills
- Experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc...)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. for occasional facility operational/safety needs
- Ability to operate standard office equipment in performing essential functions of work
- Ability to sit for a prolonged period of time and enter information into the computer system in a sustained and continuous manner
