The College of Agriculture is seeking a Coordinator of Student Outreach and Retention. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.

Serves as faculty advisor to OSU MANRRS (Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences) and SACNAS (Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science) Chapters; OSU and College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS) sponsored student organizations. Provide leadership and advising to 50-60 MANRRS and similar SACNAS club members and work to expand capacity and membership. Attend weekly meetings, develop, organize, and assist with leadership, professional development, recruiting, and community service activities, assist in internship, scholarship, grant and job applications, and ensure fulfillment of the club’s University and national reports, responsibilities and regulations. This position teaches workshops, supports and enhances the academic, career and personal development of Chapter student members.

The position contributes to College of Agricultural Sciences’ Academic Programs Office mission of offering quality undergraduate and graduate student programs including recruitment and retention of multicultural and first generation students by advising MANRRS/SACNAS, organizing and assisting CAS diversity recruitment activities, connecting employers and industry contacts to the student organizations, assisting in hiring and overseeing graduate assistants (GAs), serving as liaison for fund-raising and grant writing, and serving on University and National boards and committees.

Position Duties
50% MANRRS and SACNAS Chapter Advising
The Advisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the OSU MANRRS and SACNAS Chapters. This position serves as the lead contact and liaison for the National organizations, and the advisor contact for OSU Student Experiences and Engagement/ Student Involvement Coordinator also working closely with CAS Student Engagement Coordinator assisting student officers and members with maintaining compliance including assisting and overseeing officers in the following:
  • National recognition and chapter reporting
  • Annual recognition with OSU and CAS
  • Event planning and working with Risk Management
  • Activity planning, reporting, and meeting updates
  • Student organizations and activities grant policy
  • Club indexes and budgeting, and reporting back to stakeholders
  • Recognized Student Organization (RSO) officer and advisor training updates
  • Oversee the Chapter activities ensuring compliance with reporting, risk assessment, youth leadership training, and membership growth and tracking
  • Update website and social media; assist CAS Marketing and Communications team with story and communications projects
  • Serve as CAS Club Advisor and CAS club collaborator for CAS events and activities
  • Lead efforts to design, plan, and implement, in collaboration with university and CAS partners, change actions, initiatives, and communications to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout all facets of CAS including student recruitment and retention efforts
  • Contribute to professional development including providing workshops, invited speakers, training activities, and collaborating with a variety of campus partners and extension offices
  • Work with current Junior MANRRS Chapter and develop on-campus visitation via annual Junior MANRRS Leadership Institute programming development and implementation


25% Employer Relations
  • Facilitate connections, opportunities, and networking with National and Regional MANRRS/SACNAS sponsors, industry employers, academic and non-profit organizations
  • Work with CAS Career Development Center Assistant Director on events and activities
  • Develop and share internship, scholarship, and professional activities with CAS students

20% Recruitment and Retention of Students from Underrepresented Backgrounds
  • Assist OSU Admissions in events and activities that directly address the opportunity gap by participating and organizing Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) students for events including the university president’s receptions, LatinX community fairs, black churches in Portland and partnerships with Juntos, Mi Familia Weekend, Beaver Hangouts, K-12 outreach programming
  • Work with CAS Coordinator of Student Outreach and Recruitment on events and activities targeting diverse student recruitment efforts
  • Organize MANRRS/SACNAS officer or member teams for near-peer role models and K-12 outreach
  • Collaborate with OSU Pre-college Programs and Cultural Resource Centers for club organization, retention and recruitment activities

5% Service
  • Serve on college, university, regional, or national boards to represent OSU, CAS, MANRRS and SACNAS
  • Engage in volunteer service and educational outreach activities
  • Develop/organize grant writing teams, and provide letters of support for others
Minimum/Required Qualifications
BS degree in STEM, agriculture, education, natural resources or related field.
A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
Significant involvement in leadership/coordination of recognized student clubs or organizations.
Minimum of one year professional experience working with students in secondary or post-secondary education settings.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills.
Experience implementing innovative or creative programs, solutions, or ideas.
Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, Excel) and other relevant tools.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
Experience in higher education student recruitment and/or career development.
Experience working with student clubs or organizations at the National level.
Ability to analyze data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities.
Understanding of the needs of diverse groups of prospective students (teens, adult learners, transfer students, underserved populations, etc.).
Demonstrated experience in project and team management.
Bilingual (English and Spanish) and Bicultural. Demonstrated ability to engage Spanish-speaking audiences through the utilization of bi-literate and bicultural skills.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Some evening and/or weekend work may be required. Some travel for the purposes of marketing and recruitment will be required both within and outside of Oregon to schools, college or high school events, and other relevant events.
