Job Description:

The Data & Analytics team at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston (FRBB) has an exciting opportunity for a summer intern to join our team. During your internship, you will work on real business problems and gain valuable experience in delivering analytical solutions across business units in the Bank. You will be supported by our core Data & Analytics team to provide business intelligence, automation, and advanced analytics solutions to stakeholders helping them make data-driven decisions.

The program is for students majoring in Data Science/Analytics, Business Analytics, Economics, Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, or any other quantitative/analytics related fields. The program begins in June and continues for 12 consecutive weeks. Interns work 40 hours per week. Please note that students who are currently taking a gap year or gap semester due to the COVID-19 pandemic remain eligible for this program.

Responsibilities will consist of:

  • Collaborating with, and supporting the work, of senior analytics staff.
  • Cleaning, wrangling, and structuring data for analysis.
  • Working with data from across the FRBB to unlock new insights.
  • Data visualization and storytelling to help businesses understand their data.
  • Providing and explaining statistical analyses ranging from descriptive statistics to predictive analytics.

Knowledge and experience:

  • A junior or senior working toward a degree in any of these fields: data science/analytics, economics, statistics, mathematics, or similar quantitative field.
  • Exhibits excellent communication skills including strong verbal and writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a remote team environment.
  • Applies judgment and critical thinking to solve problems.
  • Examines problems and processes with a creative lens.
  • Desire to quickly learn and use new tools, technologies, and methodologies.

Technical skills:

  • Data analytics experience with either R or Python
  • Data visualization skills and experience with different visualization tools (such as Tableau, PowerBI, RShiny, Dash, Plotly, etc.)
  • Understanding of database concepts and SQL syntax
  • Confident MS Excel user
  • Familiarity with statistical modeling and data analysis techniques
