The Visual Arts Center is a creative, nurturing environment for diverse students of all ages and backgrounds. Faculty and programs stress a comprehensive approach to fine arts, design, and applied media by focusing on creative concept, production workflow, and best practices in both business and technology through carefully designed course outcomes. The Visual Arts curriculum is designed with a cross-disciplinary approach to fine arts and visual communication design. Traditional and evolving approaches in a breadth of design and technology media, as well as exploration of current and future trends, are essential program features. The Motion-Based Design/Animation faculty member will be responsible for teaching various college-level Visual Communications Technology (VCT) courses to prepare professional-technical students for industry. The teaching assignment will include courses in motion graphics and related subjects. A portion of the teaching assignment may be in the evening program and online. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues, advise students, actively participate in the VCT Advisory Committee, promote the program to and seek input from industry leaders, assist with assessment of current instructional methods, develop programs and curricula including internship opportunities, and participate in Shoreline governance, department, division and campus-related professional activities. Faculty at Shoreline will have an array of students from differing programs in their classroom, including professional technical and university transfers. Shoreline seeks a candidate that can identify and mitigate the barriers to success that many students face, and be passionate about creating an equitable learning environment that supports success for all students. REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in fine arts, visual communication, or related field.Two (2) years design or related industry experience, as well as and teaching/training experienceExperience using Adobe Creative Cloud and other industry-standard softwareExperience in curriculum development and ability to develop curriculum for current and future technologies.KNOWLEDGE OF: Principles of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) as they apply to teaching, student support, and curriculum development. AfterEffects with Cinema4D Lite, 2D and 3D Animation, and Multimedia DesignHTML, CSS, and scripting and programming languages such as JavaScript, C#, C++.Design, time-based, non-linear and script-based animation principlesOverall knowledge of business-related skills within the visual communications industry such as contract- or project-based employment and current practices. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT: The College is currently in mixed remote operations environment, with some assignments completed in a fully online environment during this time. For remote (online) instruction, faculty will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. For on-campus in-person instruction, work is usually performed in a classroom/office space that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Faculty typically use computers and media equipment in the work environment. TERM OF EMPLOYMENT/SALARY: This is a full-time, tenure track position, with a 172-day annual contract beginning September 22, 2022. Salary placement determined by the number of qualifying years of teaching/work experience combined with educational preparation. Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.
