Internship - Health Care Analyst (Hybrid Role Working Remote and in Southfield, MI)

SUMMARY:

The Senior Health Services Care Management (CM) Analytics department is looking for a Computer Science/Statistics/Business Analytics/Information Systems student who would like to learn and grow to understand the health care analytics. The focus of this position is biostatistics and data analysis in the field of health plan program development and health promotion and improvement. It uses a combination of statistics and the understanding of clinical foundation for health care management. The student will be working with the analytics team who develop predictive models using health care claims and clinical data to identify and select candidates for Care Management programs and who analyze and evaluate program results for the purpose of measuring program performance, continuous program improvement as well as outcome reporting. The student will assist in some of the areas listed below: 1) Automating the reports that are sent regularly to customers. 2) Doing literature review on Outcome evaluation, best practices in Care management 3) Doing literature review on the identification and risk stratification models of targeting the most impactful members for CM programs 4) Documentation of the regular reports 5) Eliminating some of the routine reports by adding them to the current Tableau dashboards.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Have status as a sophomore, junior or senior as of the end of the spring term (or be enrolled in an applicable graduate program).
  • Hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better as of the most recent grading period.
  • Be able to work full-time during normal business hours for this summer.
  • Be available to begin employment between late-May and mid-June.
  • Currently enrolled and active in any educational degree program that aligns with our various businesses.

EXPERIENCE: With proper education credentials no experience necessary. Previous work experience preferred.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES (SKA) REQUIRED:

  • Working knowledge of data languages such as SAS, SQL, and/or R.
  • Excellent knowledge and use of existing software packages (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent working knowledge of computers and company standard software; Internet research experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to proofread documents for spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Ability to perform necessary mathematical computations.
  • Ability to comprehend consequences of various situations and make appropriate individuals aware of same for decision making.
  • Ability to exchange information clearly and concisely and to present ideas, report facts and other information.
  • Ability to establish workflows, manage multiple projects and meet necessary deadlines while maintaining composure during stressful situations occurring as a result of workloads and/or deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
