About the Opportunity

As a participant in the Co-op/Intern Professional Development Program, you will be cultivating professional skills and performing professional level work at FirstEnergy. Each participant will receive on-the-job training, and challenging assignments to refine skills and round out competencies. Summer Internships with FirstEnergy are full-time opportunities spanning 14 weeks. FirstEnergy offers paid internships to qualified students actively enrolled in accredited university or college.
Our Corporate Security group provides the operational and governance support for physical security, including compliance with the NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) requirements and business continuity management for all FirstEnergy personnel and assets.
The Physical Security Compliance Specialist supporting the Business Continuity program at FirstEnergy develops and maintains the strategy of the FirstEnergy business continuity program to meet regulatory and company requirements, Additionally, this position supports the Physical Security Compliance Team with tasks related to NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) compliance.
This position is unique as it focuses on the administrative and compliance aspects of business continuity and physical security.
- Assist business units and departments with preparation of Business Continuity Plans and Business Impact Analysis
- Ensure all applicable Business Continuity Plans are maintained and tested on a periodic basis
- Conduct research and interpret regulatory standards and policies to ensure company business continuity practices align with compliance requirements
- Conduct internal assessments to ensure implemented compliance programs satisfactorily meet regulatory requirements
- Currently enrolled, full time, in a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited university/college with a major in Business Continuity, Emergency Management or similar discipline
- Class Standing –Junior (Dec 2023 / May 2024 graduation date) Senior (Dec 2022 / May 2023). Graduation date MUST be listed on resume
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. GPA MUST be listed on resume
- Must be able to work without sponsorship (now and in the future)
- Able to compose well-written, professional documents and reports with minimal editorial and proofing support
- Highly motivated to work independently and productively and learn quickly
- Proven team player, contributes to team goals, encourages, and supports team members
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office line of products, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Demonstrate strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively participate on a team and in remote meetings and conference calls
- Highly motivated to work independently and productively and learn quickly
- Must be organized and work well with constant priority changes
- Proven team player, contributes to team goals, encourages, and supports team members
- Strong attention to detail
- Willingness to undertake assignments involving unfamiliar subjects
- Organizational skills to prioritize and plan work, multi-task and meet schedules
- Ability to work remotely, utilizing virtual technologies
