Provider Network Intern

Blue Cross of Idaho is seeking a Provider Network intern to join our Payment Innovation team in 2022. This opportunity will allow an intern to gain an understanding of rural health and the health insurance industry.

The Intern will have the opportunity to support the development of Idaho Centers of Care Excellence, which will include working with a multidisciplinary team (clinical and administrative) to develop program metrics (cost and quality) as well as create program materials. The Intern will also have an opportunity to engage with health systems to promote the new Blue Distinction Centers (BDC) Cardiovascular designation, educate providers regarding existing designations, encourage facilities to complete BDC surveys, update and maintain the BD Portal.

This paid internship will be located at our corporate headquarters in Meridian, ID but, may have some opportunity for remote work as well.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university, preferably a junior or senior standing student
  • Microsoft Office (word, excel, PowerPoint, email, etc)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Some healthcare experience/knowledge preferred
  • Ability to think creatively (i.e. creating one pagers)
  • Ability to interpret analytic reports and identify opportunities

You will learn to:

  • Develop program criteria which will support a statewide program to improve the quality of care and reduce costs for Idaho members
  • Develop program materials to include program overviews and PowerPoint presentations
  • Develop understanding how provider performance and patient outcomes impact the overall cost of healthcare and how BCI can mitigate the rising cost of healthcare while working in collaboration with provider partners.
  • Process to implement a new program, working with multiple teams to implement
  • Write/modify provider participating agreements
