KFSN-TV (ABC30) Newsroom Internship, Summer/Fall 2022

KFSN, the Disney/ABC Owned TV station in Fresno, CA. You will have the opportunity to observe and participate in the daily work and operations of a major market television station.

The internship program is designed to provide students with an educational experience that complements their academic studies.

Responsibilities :
A day in the life...
Some of your projects with the KFSN Newsroom team may include:
  • Attend editorial and production meetings
  • Assist the assignment desk
  • Answering phones and conducting beat checks
  • Transcribe news interviews
  • Research new topics (including online/social media news research)
  • Aid in the planning of news series
  • Observe editors, writers, producers, directors, and technical crews
  • Travel with news and/or sports reporters and field crews for stories/games and live remotes on occasion
  • Sports intern will help research player statistics and transcribe player interviews


Basic Qualifications :

What you bring to the role…
  • Major or previous coursework in Broadcast Journalism, Communications or related major
  • Experience with MS Office
  • Prior newsroom internship
  • Strong, ongoing knowledge of hard news/current events
  • Strong writing skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Flexibility and ability to multi task in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Courses taken in producing/writing/editing
  • Previous experience (academic or internship) in journalism (print and/or broadcast); television, news and new media production; and/or television news script writing.
  • Thorough knowledge/experience using social media.
  • Junior or Senior-level standing, or a recent graduate within 6 months of graduation date


Required Education :
  • Must be enrolled in a college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR graduated with in the last 6 months

Additional Information :

Internship Eligibility:
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization
Work Environment
  • All candidates must be available from May/June 2022 through early January 2023
  • All candidates must be available to work 20-24 hours per week during a Monday through Sunday schedule (hours and days to be determined by your supervisor, and could include nights, weekends and holidays)
  • All candidates must be able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the session
  • All candidates must be able to work in the Fresno office and provide their own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship
