This summer our Internship Program will be a hybrid program. A hybrid program means interns will be expected to come into their designated office location about 3 times a week. All internships will be hybrid unless explicitly stated as a remote opportunity.

Responsibilities:

discovery+ Social Media Intern: Our team oversees global social strategy and community development for discovery+. What’s unique to the discovery+ social team is having the opportunity to work across all genres and with all of Discovery’s great networks. Being able to showcase a wide variety of genres keeps our social content fresh and exciting, and allows us to constantly innovate and experiment.


Responsibilities:
discovery+ is a relatively young product, which makes it one of the most exciting teams to be a part of at Discovery! An intern on this team will have exposure to all aspects of social, from brainstorming and strategy to copywriting and content creation. They’ll be a part of the show promotion process from ideation to execution, helping grow our social following as well as discovery+’s subscriber base. We’re especially interested in someone who can put energy towards our TikTok where there is so much opportunity for us to showcase our content.

HGTV Editorial Intern:
This internship is in the Digital Studios department. The focus will be on creating original (not show-related) content for HGTV.com.

Responsibilities:
The intern will assist editors in creating and writing original content for HGTV.com. This includes articles, photo galleries, and possibly some video and social media work. There will be opportunities for the intern to write their own content, which will involve souring images and information from PR firms and industry professionals. An interest in home and lifestyle subjects and an awareness of the top media brands in the industry is a plus. Strong writing skills are a must.

HGTV Digital Video Intern
: Our department is unique because we have the wonderful job of creating content for HGTV fans everywhere they are online- our website, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. I am proud and excited to work for this department because we are able to use our creative and planning skills to coordinate internally and with external production companies to create digital video content that super-serves our audience and fulfills the needs of our sponsors.
We fit into the bigger picture of Discovery by creating valuable SEO, Commerce, and Home Promotions content, which creates videos views, engagement, and revenue.

Responsibilities:
The HGTV Digital Video Intern will have the opportunity to learn and be involved in the lifecycle of digital video projects including brainstorming, researching, pre-production, production, post-production, and delivery. The Intern will actively participate in creating content for the HGTV brand to live on our website and social media outlets. The intern will be responsible for researching products for inclusion in Commerce videos. The intern will research and repurpose library footage into fresh and relevant content for our brands. The intern will have an opportunity to interact with a wide variety of Discovery employees and learn more about their job functions.

HGTV Linear Digital Social Intern
: The convergent digital team is the team responsible for creating content to promote HGTV and discovery+ shows and talent. We work to support shows with articles and galleries on HGTV.com as well as across social platforms with clips from the show and original content. We work with many other departments including the HGTV linear production, marketing, talent management and editorial departments. We are the team that makes sure fans of HGTV know about all our new priority shows and talent on the internet and social media.

HGTV has a social footprint of over 27 million, the digital social team works to promote shows and talent across all the major social media platforms. During this internship, the intern will be working with the HGTV social team to watch shows and create social assets. Responsibilities will include editing videos, making graphics in Canva, crafting clever social copy and creating content for HGTV's TikTok. The social intern will also help monitor comments and community engagement as well. The major projects for this internship term will be working with the team to create video assets that thrive on Instagram Reels and TikTok.

HGTV Linear Digital Editorial Intern
: The convergent digital team is the team responsible for creating content to promote HGTV and discovery+ shows and talent. We work to support shows with articles and galleries on HGTV.com as well as across social platforms with clips from the show and original content. We work with many other departments including the HGTV linear production, marketing, talent management and editorial departments. We are the team that makes sure fans of HGTV know about all our new priority shows and talent on the internet and social media.

The convergence editorial intern will create content for HGTV.com, which has an average audience of 9.9 million users a month. The intern will work with the convergence editorial director to determine content that needs to be created to support priority shows and talent. During the course of the internship, the intern will watch shows and pitch and write articles and galleries and may have the opportunity to interview talent. By the end of the internship term, the intern should have multiple bylines and will have gained many assets to add to their portfolio.
Qualifications:
  • Must be currently enrolled as a student (proof of enrollment will be required if selected for an internship)
  • Must be a rising Junior, Senior, or Graduate student
  • Must have at least a 3.0 GPA
  • Must have the legal right to work in the United States
  • Desired Majors: Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Digital Media, Video Production
  • Video editing skills (Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and the Creative Suite)
  • Deep knowledge of social media, particularly TikTok
  • Strong copywriting skills
  • Canva
  • Familiarity with internet trends, lingo, and nuances of communicating online

  • Our Summer 2022 program will run from Wednesday, June 1st, 2022 to Friday, August 19, 2022.

  • The application deadline for Summer 2022 is Friday, March, 4th. After this date, we cannot guarantee your application will be reviewed for the position.

  • Our internships are paid opportunities. Credit is not required; however, we will provide the necessary documentation for school credit if desired.

  • We do not require a cover letter- please do not submit one. Instead, demonstrate your passion for the position through your resume and interviews.
