Position Description

Atlantic Union’s Diversity Summer Internship program is a professional development opportunity for local diverse students to gain practical work experience, helping students become better prepared to enter into the financial industry post-graduation. Students have the ability to build professional networks, and receive training and mentoring throughout the program.

Atlantic Union Bank’s Human Resources (HR) Intern Program is designed to give college students an opportunity to learn and work in the operation responsible for attracting, hiring, onboarding, developing and supporting all of our employees. It is our intent to give the Intern real assignments – assignments that stretch the Intern, provide the Intern with valuable experience, and allow the Intern to contribute to the Human Resources function.

Position Accountabilities

The Intern will be provided assignments in various HR functions in order to provide exposure to the variety of work that HR drives and supports. Rotations will be tailored to the Intern’s areas of interest, study or career aim. Possible areas of assignment are Talent Development, Teammate Engagement, Compensation, Benefits, HR Operations, and Talent Acquisition. Accountabilities will vary based on the assignment, but generally may include:

  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Day-to-day execution of defined activities and special projects
  • Assistance in preparing information and research materials
  • Training and shadow opportunities in a variety of tasks
  • Managing databases, records and/or data

Organizational Relationship

This position reports to the Head of Talent Development.

Position Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Must be at least 18 years’ old.
  • Current enrollment in an accredited college or university is required. Students must be undergraduates entering their junior or senior year or currently pursuing a graduate level degree.
  • Must be available to work a 40-hour week, Monday through Friday. Interns will work remotely at a workspace that meets Atlantic Union Bank standards. The Intern may be invited to work onsite on occasion.
  • Must submit a resume and cover letter highlighting accomplishments, professional and academic goals, and expectations of this internship position.
  • Submission of transcripts and two professional or academic references.

  • Strong organization skills and ability to prioritize
  • Ability to work independently with indirect supervision
  • Ability to use Microsoft suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
