KABC-TV Social Media & Audience Engagement Intern, Summer/Fall 2022

KABC-TV is an ABC owned television station (OTVS), located in a state-of-the-art facility in Glendale, near downtown Los Angeles. The station is in the #2 ranked television market in the country. Weekly, ABC7 produces over forty-four hours of local news, public affairs, magazine programs and public service campaigns.

The internship program is designed to provide students with an on-site educational experience that complements their academic studies. Interns will have an opportunity to observe and participate in the daily work and operations of a major market television station.

Responsibilities :
A day in the life…

You will have opportunity to participate in our audience engagement strategy and production for the ABC7 Community efforts online, on-air and through social media. This may also include audience engagement strategy for public affairs and special event shows including “On The Red Carpet” and the ABC OTV multi-platform content initiative “Localish.”

As the Social Media & Audience Engagement intern, you may:
  • Be part of the social media engagement strategy for the various programs and franchises, including writing for the web and creating social media content.
  • Assist with general administrative tasks remotely.
  • Identify photos/videos for social posts and clear them for use on-air and to share on social platforms
  • Maintain the database of approvals from viewers/followers
  • Respond to Instagram direct messages and Twitter replies
  • Engage on Instagram and Twitter posts with likes, comments and retweets
  • Identify stories and post to ABC7 social platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube
  • Select recipients and mail ABC7 pins to Eyewitnesses
  • Notify Eyewitnesses when their photo/video will air and email clips of the broadcast afterward
  • Assist in Airtable database management of on-air segments such as ABC7 Hello, 2020 Grads, ABC7 Healthcare Heroes, etc.
  • Keep track of and curate the master Eyewitness List
  • Post articles to abc7.com
  • Other duties to support the marketing of abc7.com, ABC7’s social platforms, #abc7eyewitness, On the Red Carpet and Localish, may include:
    • LOCALISH:
      Maintain the Localish section of abc7.com
      Re-Tweet Localish content on ABC7 Twitter
      Upload new Localish content to LASSEE
    • OTRC:
      Clip interviews in Dalet and save to P Drive
      Assist in posting process (including YouTube)
    • ABC7.COM:
      Post new content to ABC7.com via CMS
      Share above content on social platforms

Basic Qualifications :
What you bring to the role…
  • Junior or Senior-level standing, or a recent graduate within 6 months of graduation date.
  • Experience with MS Office including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
  • Proficiency with an editing program such as AVID, Adobe Premiere and/or Final Cut Pro.
  • Major or previous coursework in Film & Television, Communications or related major.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Courses taken in producing/writing/editing (Preditor).
  • Thorough knowledge/experience using social media.
  • Previous experience (academic or internship) in journalism (print and/or broadcast); television, news and new media production; and/or television news script writing.

Required Education :
  • Currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior in an undergraduate program at a college/university taking at least one class in the semester prior to participation in the internship program, or recently graduated within 6 months at time of application.

Additional Information :
  • All candidates must be at least 18 years old.
  • All candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Must be enrolled in a college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program or graduated with in the last 6 months OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship.
  • Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program
  • This is both a remote and in-person internship. The internship requires a working, reliable internet connection as well as a quiet, dedicated workspace. May be required to attend local events on occasion.
  • All candidates must be able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the session

Program Dates
  • All candidates must be available from May/June 2022 through early January 2023
  • All candidates must be available to work 40 hours per week during a Monday through Sunday schedule (hours and days to be determined by your supervisor, and could include nights, weekends and holidays)
  • All candidates must be able to work in the Glendale office when needed and provide their own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship
