Principal is seeking a talented junior resource to be their Portfolio Management Assistant and help within their Global Fixed Income team. This is an EXCELLENT opportunity to be a part of a team looking over $45B in assets and be a key contributor to a Fortune 500 company.
- Providing financial and operational support to portfolio management, research, and trading teams to aid in the management of portfolios
- Monitor daily market developments and ensure portfolio compliance guidelines
- Work with portfolio management to establish and implement investment strategy across client portfolios
- Work with PMs to review portfolio positioning and performance and discuss any recommended changes in portfolio structure and risk exposures
- Utilize tools and models including Bloomberg, Aladdin, HMM (Hidden Markov Model), and proprietary portfolio management tools to help PMs define portfolio strategies and develop execution plans
- Regularly review the effectiveness of the quantitative tools and how they are employed in the investment process
- Make recommendations to establish best practices across the relevant team(s)
- Assist portfolio managers by running position reports versus appropriate benchmarks
- Answer ad-hoc requests and performance-related questions through the use of mathematical and quantitative techniques
- Work with portfolio managers and multiple other teams to create performance and attribution and other analytical reports to present to both internal and external clients
- Create, coordinate, and update sector-related analytics and reports including portfolio optimizations, scenario analysis, position reports versus benchmarks and performance attribution
- Prepare and assist with analysis of surveillance reports
- Assist with sector trading and relative value analysis
- Respond to basic inquiries and requests for information about investment strategies
- Partner with marketing, performance, and investment team to ensure materials are up-to-date, accurate and meet business requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business or technical field (finance, accounting, economics, statistics, engineering, data science, business analytics)
- Previous internship in fixed income or related technical field preferred
- Undergraduate GPA of 3.5 or above, with high marks for quantitative works, and progress towards CFA, MBA preferred
- Familiarity with database structures, big data techniques (Cassandra, Spark and Hadoop), and programming languages (Python, MATLAB, R) preferred
- Knowledge of financial markets and fixed income strategies, including general knowledge of bond mechanics and pricing calculations is preferred
- Excellent abilities in the areas of communication (verbal and written), problem solving, time management, analytics and use of Excel required
- Previous experience with Bloomberg preferred
- Must be able to understand basic accounting principles and economic theory, and efficiently and effectively research, compile and analyze information
- Must be collaborative and able to build and maintain strong relationships,
- Excellent attention to details, work independently, multi-task and prioritize effectively
- Strong quantitative skills and analytical mindset
- Knowledge of investments and financial markets.
- Keen sense of curiosity and open-minded thought process desired
