VMware is seeking a motivated intern who is ready to apply knowledge of business practices and processes in a fast-paced, real-world environment. The intern will assist in writing reports, conducting research, analyzing data, and making recommendations to improve effectiveness and efficiency. This will be a valuable experience for any student pursuing a career in Management Information Systems, Business Administration, or Systems Engineering.

What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for as an intern?

During your 12-week internship, you will be exposed to a wide range of software platform technologies utilized by customers all over the world. You will use your technical, business, and communication skills to work with the Government, Education, and Healthcare (GEH) Professional Services leadership team to review real business data, interact leaders across the business and propose improved management reporting, dashboards and/or structures. You will be key in defining source data and frequency of reporting that increases leadership’s ability to track key metrics, outcomes and arrive at better business decisions.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

On a day-to-day basis, GEH Professional Services for helping our customers achieve desired business/mission outcomes through delivery of professional services engagements.

Your specific activities may be modified to suit your strengths, but generally you can expect the following assignments:

• Interviewing extended leadership to understand their metrics and key business goals.
• Develop an understanding of how a services business operates across Customer Success, Professional Services and Support.
• Review existing structures to understand gaps and issues with the current data, dashboards, and reporting.
• Propose and workshop with an extended team new frameworks, reporting, metrics, and dashboards.
• Develop outline development plans and schedules with the development teams.
• Preparing presentation materials for meetings
• Organizing, scheduling, and participating in cross-functional stakeholder meetings
• Documenting and following up on important actions and decisions from meetings

What skills will be helpful for a successful internship?

• Rising Juniors and Seniors pursuing an undergraduate degree in a technical, information systems, business management or related field
• Knowledge in Microsoft Excel, Word, Visio
• Preferred Coursework in the following: Data Analysis, Cloud Computing, Business/Information Systems Management.
• Strong analytical/problem-solving skills, good judgment, and passion for your work
• Good teamwork and communication skills

What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

While you will report to the Director and Chief of Staff, Delivery Excellence and Strategy you will work with the leaders across the Services Sales, PMO, Delivery teams aligning to public sectors including Federal, State, local Governments, Education, and Healthcare.

The team you’ll interact with, much like most teams at VMware, operates in a very collaborative culture with an eye towards continuous learning and improvement.
