Water Engineering Intern

Gannett Fleming’s XCEL Internship Program is a formal 10–12-week experience designed to fully immerse you in our culture. Emphasis is placed on mentorship and connection to peers across all our business lines while you work alongside leading experts in the engineering industry. We offer biweekly professional development webinars, an Intern Day celebration, and an end-of-summer group presentation and competition. Preference will be given to candidates within driving distance of our offices in order to offer a hybrid work environment, but we will consider fully remote applicants as well. Our Water Business Line is currently looking for summer interns throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast U.S., with preference to the following locations:
- Camp Hill, PA
- Pittsburgh, PA
- Valley Forge, PA
- Woodbury, NY
- Baltimore, MD
- Virginia Beach, VA
Based on performance, our water interns are often offered full-time positions at the culmination of the summer internship program!
Our water projects include study, design, bid and construction phase services for water and wastewater treatment plant upgrades; pipeline and pumping stations; stormwater infrastructures; hydraulic modeling; safe yield investigations; and preparation of various regulatory agency permit applications.
Under direction of experienced water, wastewater, and stormwater engineers, you will assist with a variety of system engineering assignments, including:
- Field data collection
- Data analysis
- Report writing
- Hydraulic modeling
- Permitting
- Research and evaluation of various topics, processes, and equipment
- Preliminary facilities design
- Cost estimating
- Financial analyses
- Client interaction
Minimum Qualifications
- Degree program: BS or MS Civil or Environmental Engineering with an interest in learning more about careers in the water industry
- Cumulative GPA: 3.0 or higher
- Good verbal and written communications skills
- Detail oriented team player possessing strong planning and organizational skills
- Good problem-solving skills
- Physically able to perform work in the field, if applicable
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current Status: Rising Junior or above
- Applicable Course Work including but not limited to water, wastewater, hydraulics, chemistry, etc.
