Interns spend approximately 10 weeks remotely working alongside leading experts in government and academia from all over the world. Brookings also offers students the opportunity to intern in departments such as communications, human resources and central operations management. The mission of the Internship Program is to provide students with a pre-professional learning experience that offers meaningful, practical work experience related to their field of study or career interest. Students engage in career exploration and development as well as learn new skills.
Interns will have the opportunity to attend virtual meetings, think tank events, professional development workshops, and public Brookings events. In addition, interns will have the opportunity to network with other interns throughout the Institution.
This internship is an opportunity for undergraduate students in their junior or senior year and graduate students with an interest in in European affairs and transatlantic relations to support scholar research and activity on matters of U.S. policy towards Europe and the foreign policies of European states, and to apply principles and theory learned in the classroom in a professional environment. The internship is offered on the basis of external financial support; interns may also receive academic credit in addition to receiving external financial support.
Applicants must be willing to commit to a minimum number of hours per week (no less than 32 hours per week, during regular business hours), with some flexibility around an academic course schedule.
Position Location: This is a remote only opportunity. This internship requires you to be located in the U.S. for the duration of the internship. Work location cannot be in any of the following states: Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Washington. Please only apply if you can live and work in states other than those listed above for the duration of the internship. State locations and specifics are subject to change as our hiring requirements shift.

The internship will focus on a broad range of issues, U.S. foreign policy vis-à-vis Europe under the Biden administration, the Russia-Ukraine crisis, the French election, the continued impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the transatlantic partnership, the U.S.-U.K. relationship after Brexit, the state of democracy in Europe and the United States, and issues related to China in U.S.-European relations.
Interns will acquire substantive professional experience while working with the staff and scholars in the Center on the United States and Europe (CUSE) at Brookings to assist with programmatic and administrative work, event coordination, and research support. Interns will hone organizational, analytical, and professional interpersonal skills assisting CUSE in its mission to foster high-level U.S.-European dialogue on the changes in Europe and the global challenges that affect transatlantic relations.
Interns will gain first-hand experience in public policy and international affairs by assisting in the logistical planning and implementation of conferences, roundtables, briefings, and other meetings; researching developing issues in Europe; monitoring current developments in relevant research areas; proofreading, fact-checking, and editing research materials; collecting, reviewing, summarizing, and assembling relevant literature materials from a wide variety of sources; compiling and updating mailing, media, and invitation lists; attending foreign policy events; briefing CUSE staff members; and providing general administrative support.
Undergraduate students in their junior or senior year and graduate students with an interest in European affairs and transatlantic relations are encouraged to apply.

Successful completion of a background investigation is required for interning at Brookings.
To be eligible for this internship, applicants must receive financial sponsorship from their university or another external organization and, once selected, be able to provide proof of such support. Interns may receive academic credit in addition to external financial support.
