R&D Intern – NYCOA seeks an inquisitive, proactive, and highly organized self-starter to join their team as an R&D Intern in Manchester, New Hampshire. The NYCOA R&D Intern will work with R&D in a project-based fashion to assess new nylon products, evaluate different grades of NYCOA material for industry-specific performance, collect samples, analyze and interpret testing data, and create a summary presentation documenting information collected and analyzed. The R&D Intern will present these results to the R&D and broader NYCOA team. The intern will also document, store, and provide feedback and any findings to colleagues.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Evaluate new and developing nylon chemistries for specific industrial applications.
• Collect and assess data and the performance of new categories of chemical additives in NYCOA resins for industry-specific product development.
• Present recommendations and interim findings throughout project work to R&D and business development.
• Select products to purchase, design and propose protocols, and perform lab experiments.
• Review secondary literature specific to R&D product development projects, and synthesize information to make recommendations for new product development
• Demonstrate project management skills
• Perform presentations to Management as needed, including a final project summation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Major in Plastics Engineering or related field required.
• Completed Sophomore or Junior year in degree by the start date required.
• Experience/coursework/thesis in either chemical compounding, polymer engineering, polymer chemistry, or other plastics-focused engineering role preferred.
• Living locally (in Manchester, NH area) required.
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently & manage time to meet project goals.
• Comfortable working in a chemical/manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency and familiarity with statistical analysis of data preferred.
• Strong computer, written & oral communication skills.
• Must be currently authorized to work in the U.S.

SCHEDULE: This is a full time, 40-hour per week position that starts immediately in the Winter of 2022. Some remote work may be considered but this internship is majorly spent in-lab.

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS: Starting wage commensurate with knowledge and experience. NYCOA offers an excellent benefits package after 90 days of employment, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid holidays and sick time, and eligibility for 401 K after 6 months.
