R&D Engineering and Science Intern
During this internship you will apply your science and engineering skills to develop technology for sports field management. This project is part of our ongoing mission to provide users with data-driven approaches to managing their landscapes. Working in Toro’s Center for Technology, Research, and Innovation (CTRI) alongside a team of engineers and scientists, you will gain knowledge, experience, and skills while performing in-the-field research, data analysis, and technology development. This position is part of The Toro Company's 2022 Summer Internship Program. The internship program will last 12 weeks, from May 31 through August 12, 2022 (negotiable). Based at our world headquarters in Bloomington, MN, this R&D internship is a great way to gain early career experience in an exciting research program.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in testing, maintenance, and operation of currently deployed electronic and mechanical landscape maintenance systems
- Define and test research hypotheses regarding use of sensor data in athletic field management for improved performance and resource conservation
- Collaborate with other team members and external partners to develop and manage experiments which simulate the requirements of the customer
- Manage research data from collection to analysis.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Undergraduate Junior or Senior or Masters candidate in mechanical, electrical, or computer engineering, computer science, or other related discipline required
- Proficiency with one or more programming languages commonly used in data science and analysis (e.g. Python, R, Matlab)
- Must be motivated, self-directed, and able to communicate efficiently with team members
- Able to operate large equipment for field research and work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- Able to frequently commute to and from remote test sites independently
