As an Software Engineering intern, you will participate in our nationwide Internship & Co-Op Program, LEAP, where you will have the opportunity to Learn, Engage, Apply, and Progress within the company. BAE Systems in Minneapolis MN is seeking a summer intern pursuing a career in the field of software engineering who wishes to gain hands-on experience to complement their technical course work. In this position, you will be supporting the Combat Mission Systems (CMS) Business at our Minneapolis, MN facility. Due to Covid-19, this position is expected to be remote or hybrid for the foreseeable future but may return on-site at some point. Relocation assistance will not be offered and housing is not provided.

This internship is for a 3 month period from May 2022 - August 2022.

As a Software Engineering Intern, you will:
  • Assist in the design and development of software used in defense related applications
  • Develop requirements, design, and related documentation, coding, debugging and integration testing
  • Work within a team environment, under the guidance of a mentor to learn about software engineering principles and technical development specific to BAE Systems

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's Degree program pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum Sophomore standing
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Basic understanding of and skills in software design and coding, including Object Oriented Analysis & Design
  • Exposure to multiple high level programming languages; C++
  • Familiarity with MS Office applications: Outlook, Word, Excel

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Exposure to multiple Operating Systems (e.g., Windows, UNIX/Linux/BSD, OS X)
  • Experience generating and writing supporting documents such as software requirements, user manuals / tools documentation, and software design documents
  • SysML or UML modeling
  • Experience with IDE’s such as Visual Studio, Eclipse
  • Experience with scripting languages (i.e. Bash/shell, Perl, Python, VBA)
  • Experience with embedded platforms such as the Arduino, Raspberry Pi, misc. ARM/AVR-based microcontrollers
  • Experience with Configuration Management tools (git, Subversion, etc.)
  • Familiarity with communications – network protocols and/or serial
  • Junior level in school
