Job Description
WP Creative Group is the in-house creative agency for advertising at The Washington Post. We create award-winning advertisements that deliver business outcomes for today’s most notable brands by connecting our unique storytelling with innovative tech solutions.
Our work takes many forms — reported articles, photo essays, documentary videos, animations, social media posts, experiential activations, digital ads and more. You can see some examples, here.
We are seeking a creative, self-starting summer intern to learn from and assist team members on all facets of custom advertising from brainstorming a concept that fulfills an advertiser’s objectives to marketing it to bringing it to life.
Internship Goal:
Experience and gain a deeper understanding of the full life-cycle of custom advertising (pre- and post- sale) on The Washington Post. At the end of the internship, you will have amassed real-world experience in one of the fastest-growing advertising categories and developed a portfolio with examples of pitches and published work on The Washington Post.
Responsibilities
Supporting WPCG’s Creative team, you will receive hands-on experience in several marketing disciplines including:
- Research: Conduct research, identify key cultural, audience and editorial insights to help inspire concepts for advertisements that will live and be distributed on The Washington Post.
- Ideation and marketing: Contribute creative ideas for articles, videos, social media activations, digital ads, influencer campaigns that will achieve advertiser objectives and resonate with The Washington Post’s audience. Learn how to write and package ideas for marketability to clients.
- Writing and Editing: Under the guidance of a creative lead, you will report, write and edit articles and copywrite ad, social media and proposal copy. You’ll contribute to quality assurance checks such as copy-editing, fact-checking and design and user-experience QAs to make sure the team’s work maintains highest standards of journalistic excellence and are seamless user experiences.
- Maintain marketing materials: Help maintain libraries of marketing materials such as case studies, product offerings and core decks to help the team work more efficiently.
Qualifications
- Must be currently enrolled in college at the time of applying, Open to rising juniors and seniors, new college graduates and grad students.
- Major in Marketing, Journalism, Media or Communications preferred
- Internship is for 30 – 40 hours per week, to be agreed upon, lasts for 10 weeks, and will be remote for 2022.
