ESPN Creative Studio is seeking a reporter/researcher intern who will focus on visual journalism and story development. Whether researching visual story ideas, reporting on data-driven stories or pitching new concepts, this person will get to observe and contribute to everything the Visual Storytelling team produces.
Responsibilities :
A Day in the Life:
- Work with team leadership to understand the strategy behind our storytelling and story development.
- Ideate/brainstorm with the Visual Storytelling team to produce custom content solutions for visual presentations across our digital platforms.
- Gather research efficiently to stress-test visual story ideas in the early stages.
- Report/write as needed, on anything from informative photo captions to more extensive reporting.
- Research new trends and applications of visual storytelling to enhance ESPN’s content strategy.
Basic Qualifications :
- Fundamental writing and research skills
- Sound knowledge of news and trends across the sports landscape
- Solid communication and organization skills
- Facility with the Internet and knowledge of which data sources are reliable and authoritative
- Enthusiasm for visual storytelling and working within a team setting
Preferred Qualifications :
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel
- Understanding of basic dataviz chart styles
- Knowledge of basic libel law
- Understanding of media ethics and journalism standards
- Examples of reporting/research work produced (professional or personal)
Required Education :
Enrolled as a junior, senior or graduate student in an accredited college/university in the semester prior to the internship or graduated within the past 6 months.
Preferred Education :
Majoring in journalism, communications, graphic design, multimedia/visual arts, ideally with specialization in journalism or a closely related field.

Internship Eligibility:
- Must be enrolled in a college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR graduated within the past 6 months OR currently participating in a Disney Professional Internship
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program
- Must possess unrestricted work authorization
Program Dates: The length of this internship is 10 weeks, and the approximate dates are June 6 – August 12, 2022. Interns will work 40 hours per week and must be fully available throughout the internship.
Work Environment: This internship may be on site in Bristol, CT or remote. If in person, a limited amount of housing assistance will be provided for those who qualify. If remote, the internship will require a working, reliable internet connection as well as a quiet, dedicated work space.
