Innovation Lab Intern

KEEN is offering college students a completely virtual opportunity to experience and be embedded into the brand by offering a 10-week paid summer (June - August) internship.

Program Requirements
- Be a Junior, Senior, or Grad student
- Must be able to dedicate 40 hours/week toward the internship during normal M-F PST working hours
- Eligible to work in the US

General Summary
The Innovation lab is responsible for building functional prototypes to assist the innovation development team in exploring new constructions, technologies and methods of make. Daily activities including:
- Building 3D prints to confirm new last and tooling concepts,
- Patterning and assembling new upper concepts using heat processes and industrial sewing machines,
- Cutting materials by hand or using a laser
- Mocking up prototypes by deconstructing and reconstructing current shoe models
- Lasting Uppers
- Building footwear paper patterns from 2D files received from factories
- Bottom Attachment/Stockfitting
An intern in the lab will be a part of weekly tracking and teardown meetings. They will also learn about 3D printing including how to prep files, operating the equipment and post processing. The intern should expect to learn how to read SOPs, footwear patterns, prototyping in an R&D environment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Importing STL files into 3D Builder to prepare for 3D printing
- Operate 3D printers and post process 3D prints
- Help to update the project tracker
- Read factory SOPs and help pre-fit upper prototypes (applying adhesive, heat pressing, gauge marking, hole punching)
- Help keep track of material/consumable inventory
- Download footwear papers and convert to physical paper patterns
Minimum Qualifications
- Pursuing education in Engineering, Industrial Design or related field
- Must be enrolled an accredited college or university at the Junior, Senior, or Graduate level
- Must be able to dedicate 40 hours/week toward the internship during normal M-F PST working hours
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Exceptional attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills
- Ability to learn new software programs
- Ability to solve problems with a positive attitude
- Ability to work independently and on tight deadlines
- Able to sit and/or stand at a desk and use a computer for extended periods of time
- Proficient with Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
