IT Process Improvement Specialist

Hennepin County's Information Technology (IT) department is seeking an IT Process Improvement Specialist to join the Process and Workflow Management team. This position will assist with establishing new or improved ways for the IT department to address business needs, both internal and external facing, to advance the county’s implementation of the Future Ready Hennepin initiative.

Location and hours:
This position is remote. Remote workers may be required to come on-site an average of 0 to 12 days a year for work meetings, trainings, or for any other reasons that their supervisor may deem necessary (may include additional days for onboarding and new employee training). Supervisors will provide as much advance notice as practicable. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

About the position type:
This is a full time, benefit-earning position. This position is eligible to receive an additional cash merit of up to $2,266.06 that can be earned annually based on performance.

In this position, you will:

  • Create or lead creation of, “as is” and “to be” documentation to allow customers to fully understand their business processes’ current and future states.
  • Present recommendations on ways to improve and/or automate existing business processes used by the customer.
  • Facilitate and/or lead implementation of new or modified business processes that ensure efficiency.
  • Develop metrics that provide data for process measurement and identifying indicators for future improvement opportunities.
  • Build and maintain business relationships with the information technology department and business partners throughout the organization.
Need to have:
  • One of the following:
    • Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, management information systems (MIS), business administration, business management, finance, related field, or field related to the business and one year or more of professional IT experience.
    • Two-year college/vocational technical degree in a technology field and two years or more of information technology experience.
    • An approved information technology certificate and two years or more of information technology experience.
    • Completion of five college/vocational technical technology courses and two years or more of information technology experience.
    • Completion of an approved IT Hennepin County internship and two years or more of information technology experience.
    • Four or more years of information technology experience.
  • Ability to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Nice to have:
  • Two years or more of experience in:
    • Applying standard BPI methodology and tools.
    • Creating documentation for business processes detailing current and future states.
    • Preparing and presenting information to technology and business partners.
  • Ability to:
    • Tailor communication approach to specific situations and audiences.
    • Work effectively within a team environment and support cross-functional projects.
    • Mentor junior team members.
    • Communicate concisely and clearly on subject matter on all levels.
