Security Benefit (SB), a leader in the retirement market, is seeking an Accounting Intern to join the Financial Planning and Analysis Team. Security Benefit has been dedicated to helping clients plan and save for retirement for nearly five decades. Over the last several years it has become a top provider of retirement products and services through a nationwide network of independent financial representatives. This position will be based in our Topeka, Kansas office. SB associates are working in a hybrid environment with both remote and on-site work.

General Accountabilities

As an intern, you will work alongside our experienced staff in the Financial Planning & Analysis department. We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual that can think critically, and problem solve to meet the needs of the team. This candidate must demonstrate a high level of professionalism.

Responsibilities may include:

• 
  Assist in preparing recurring management reports, including running reports, analyzing variances to plan and monitor trends;
• Assist with verifying internal consistency, completeness, and credibility of all reports;
• Analyze financial statements to understand trends in the business and ensure the accuracy of reported results, communicate analysis to key stakeholders;
• Assist with financial forecasting and planning analysis;
• Assist with capital model calculations and analysis; and
• Assist with and support rating agency surveys and filings.

Eligibility

Students eligible for the internship will be current, full-time students available to work approximately 19 hours a week, beginning as soon as possible. Student will be expected to work during and in between semesters and up to full-time during the summer. This is not a summer only internship.

Qualifications:

• Full-time student in Accounting and/or Finance with at least a 3.0 GPA in majors. Current junior, senior or graduate student preferred
• Proficient with MS Excel and Word
• Strong analytical, problem solving, decision making, and organizational skills
• Ability to think objectively and analytically
• Ability to work with various levels of management
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
