AARP’s Community, State and National Affairs (CSN) Group includes Government Relations, Programs, Volunteer Engagement, Community Outreach and Advocacy at the federal, state and local levels. It delivers on AARP’s social mission by educating and engaging people 50-plus and their families, strengthening communities, and championing issues that help give people financial and health security.

The AARP Nevada State Office team works to advocate on behalf of Nevadans 50+ and their families, provide resources and educational opportunities, and deliver fun events across our state. If you want to learn from a great team of professionals, apply now for this incredible opportunity! As an intern, you will work directly with AARP Nevada staff members to serve Nevada's urban, rural, and multicultural communities. You will apply strategic, analytical, and creative thinking skills to solve challenges and help develop innovative ways to further our goals.
On any given day, you could be facilitating a volunteer meeting, providing tech support during a virtual fitness class, developing an outreach plan, meeting with community partners, or preparing for an event. We'll challenge you to think and work in new ways. We are committed to your growth and cultivating your continued learning and development. This paid internship has an anticipated start date of spring 2022 and will go through the end of the year.
Responsibilities:
AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers. This may include those who have previously graduated from college and enrolled in a continuing education program.

As an intern with AARP NV, you will be:
Strategic
- Apply innovative thinking and problem-solving to challenges
- Assist with development and implementation of outreach plans for desired audiences
- Look for opportunities to enhance relationships with community partners
Analytical
- Regularly assess progress for alignment with State Office goals
- Contribute to program analyses
- Determine potential areas of outreach focus
Creative
- Discover new and innovative ways to engage with community members
- Contribute to the development of new programs and events
- Explore solutions for situational barriers
Prospective interns must be currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university; be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post-doctoral students; and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship.

Prospective interns must be:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Zoom, and willing to learn internal programs
- Flexible, adaptable
- Willing to work closely with volunteer groups
- Possess basic ability to function in an office environment
- Productive in a flexible work environment (in office, telecommuting, and/or in the community)
Desired skills include:
- Individuals enrolled in public administration, social justice, political science, social sciences, and/or gerontology are encouraged to apply
- Knowledge of community landscape
- Bilingual (English & Spanish)
- Familiarity with AARP priority initiatives, including fraud prevention, family caregiving, veterans and military families, and healthy living
Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)
AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
