The Mass Spectrometry Division is looking for a talented individual to join the R&D team as a embedded software developer intern. During this internship you will apply knowledge and skills from your coursework to solve real-world problems with your programming skills.


You will engage with a dynamic and multidisciplinary team of software programmers, electrical and mechanical engineers, chemists, and physicists applying their combined talents to create new analytical instrumentation products. This is an opportunity to develop your skills through collaboration with highly experienced professionals in a company that is a leader in the markets it serves.


For this intern role, we seek a motivated candidate who enjoys solving engineering problems and communicates clearly with colleagues both verbally and in writing. Core responsibilities for this position include:

  • Contribute to the software engineering team that develops software for commercial products and in-house research.
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams with chemists, scientists, other engineers, and technical support to resolve software issues.
  • Document and present results to colleagues.

This position may include a combination of remote and onsite work as conditions change during the pandemic.


  • Completion of Junior (typically 3rd) year at an accredited 4-year university.
  • Practical knowledge of C and C++ programming language
  • Experience with Python coding
  • Working in a Linux/Unix environment
  • Strong oral and written communication is necessary for success
  • Work schedule: Up to 40 hours per week during the summer, with flexible hours around academic courses
