Summer Intern - Corporate Relations

THE POSITION

Start Date: May/June 2022

Length of Assignment: at least three months, 40 hours per week

Education level: Undergraduates who have completed at least one year of undergraduate coursework at a university, recent grads within two years, current graduate students (MS or PhD).

We are seeking 3-5 summer interns to support Corporate Relations projects and initiatives across multiple functions (Communications & Digital, Citizenship & Engagement, and Business Operations). This internship cohort will gain cross-functional experience across Corporate Relations to better understand how we drive effective communications with Genentech’s many target audiences, both internal and external. This cohort will have peer-to-peer support, networking opportunities and career development in the fields of corporate communications and philanthropy.

CORPORATE RELATIONS INTERN IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
  • Bachelor’s degree (at least Junior level) or recent graduate, including advanced degrees (masters, PhD, etc.)

  • Good communication skills to convey information clearly, listen effectively and ask appropriate questions

  • Strong attention-to-detail and project management skills

  • Outstanding time management and organizational skills

  • Strong writing ability

  • Proficient in Adobe CC: InDesign / Illustrator / Photoshop

  • Tight typography skills

  • Ability to communicate ideas through sketching

  • Growth mindset: ability to take feedback with curiosity and vigor to improve and find the best outcome for the business

COMMUNICATIONS & DIGITAL

Have one or more of the following:

  • Examples of writing ability, perhaps a blog post, or school paper

  • Examples of other creative or communication efforts

  • Know how social media works (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram)

  • Know how how to update or even build a website

  • Passion for creative storytelling, science and innovation

CITIZENSHIP & ENGAGEMENT
  • Strategic professional who engages with a partnership approach and drive toward excellence

  • Strong communication and presentation skills. Ability to communicate concisely and translate complicated topics into lay language relevant across a variety of audiences.

  • Demonstrable analytical rigor and passion for the priority focus areas for Corporate & Employee Giving

  • Familiarity with grantmaking and/or community relations a plus

  • Passion for using philanthropic resources to create a more diverse and inclusive stem workforce/ pipeline and eliminate health disparities, might be a key attribute for effectively engaging on this team.

BUSINESS OPERATIONS
  • Project management and strategic planning experience

  • Financial acumen, along with flawless attention to detail

  • Aptitude for problem-solving and innovative and critical thinking to challenge the status quo

  • Organizational agility and interpersonal skills
