AARP’s Community, State and National Affairs (CSN) Group includes Government Relations, Programs, Volunteer Engagement, Community Outreach and Advocacy at the federal, state and local levels. It delivers on AARP’s social mission by educating and engaging people 50-plus and their families, strengthening communities, and championing issues that help give people financial and health security.

AARP Idaho seeks a results-oriented student with communication, marketing, public policy, public administration, or political science background who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment. The ideal candidate will possess excellent writing skills, event planning experience, and a good understanding of social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. This internship opportunity will provide experience in attracting and informing people through community engagements and communication channels. This internship has an expected start date of spring and will go through December 2022.
Responsibilities:
The intern’s work will include, but is not limited to:
  • Use creative skills to engage the 50+ community in the state effectively
  • In coordination with AARP staff, perform research, plan & execute community events and engage in other forms of community outreach
  • Help facilitate virtual events using a variety of virtual platforms
  • Enhance event participation by helping with marketing and promotion of events through social media channels and other platforms to “Tell the Story” about AARP Idaho’s work
  • Intern will also seek innovative ideas and opportunities to reach out to the Hispanic/Latino community 50 years and older, military veterans, and rural communities
Qualifications:
Prospective intern must be currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university; and be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post doctorate students. AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers. This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)
AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
