The Digital Relationship Marketing team seeks an enthusiastic marketing/marketing communications student to work on our newsletter program. If you are interested in email marketing, with an excellent eye for detail, copywriting skills, and enjoy working with numbers, this could be an exciting opportunity for you. Our team is responsible for managing multiple email newsletters that go out to millions of people every week, providing them with the best content for the 50-plus around health, money, lifestyle, travel, and more.

As an intern, you will learn all about email newsletter production from end to end, including article selection, copywriting, testing, and using a content management system (CMS). No coding skills are required for this position. The internship has an expected start date of May/June, and the ideal duration for this internship will be up to the end of the year and possibly beyond.
Responsibilities:
  • Assisting with all newsletters production, including use of content management system, article selection, copywriting, image selection, data analysis, and liaising between internal clients
  • Assist with ad-hoc email campaigns, including writing intake documents, attending kick-off meetings, reviewing creative, and more
  • Keeping the weekly and monthly internal reports up-to-date and providing regular insights and recommendations to the team
  • Assisting with on-site list growth tactics to help grow the newsletter lists via non-paid tactics. And also, be involved in paid list growth tactics through
  • Other projects as needed
Qualifications:

Prospective interns must be currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university; be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post-doctoral students; and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship.


AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers. This may include those who have previously graduated from college and enrolled in a continuing education program.

  • Pursing a degree in marketing or related field, digital marketing preferred
  • Experience managing projects in a work or classroom setting
  • Ability to work with internal stakeholders, including business unit leads, digital channel leads, and members of the Product, Development, Membership, or Analytics teams.
  • Experience creating marketing plans, relevant coursework
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills, ability to proof one’s own work, attention to detail
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving; leveraging technology to solve business problems in a production environment
  • Prior experience with email, social or mobile marketing preferred
