STUDENT TRAINEE (LEGAL)
Duties
As a STUDENT TRAINEE (LEGAL) GS-0999-7, your typical work assignments may include:
- Analyzing facts, legal questions, and organizing and preparing research material for attorney review.
- Searching legal documents, historical files, and other legal resources on questions relating to the National Labor Relations Act and related statutes.
- Making oral presentations and policy recommendations to attorneys.
- Researching, reviewing, analyzing, and extracting information from legal references - such as law library source materials, manuals, legal publications, and electronic computer legal research systems.
- Drafting legal memoranda and other legal documents.

- Interns may work full-time or part-time during the school year (based on agency needs) while continuing their education.

Qualifications
IDEAL CANDIDATE STATEMENT
The NLRB is seeking a student currently enrolled in law school. The candidate will have an opportunity to work on assignments directly related to the National Labor Relations Act. The candidate should have excellent oral and written communication skills.
This position has an education requirement. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted in the application package. Official transcripts will be required prior to a final offer of employment.
Students must provide a transcript showing proof of current enrollment.
Students may be asked to provide proof of course enrollment before selection.
Eligibility for the Pathways Internship Program will be verified prior to appointment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
To qualify at the GS-07 level:
Must have completed at least one (1) full academic year of graduate level education (18 credit hours) and possess a bachelor's degree.
OR
Must have completed a bachelor's degree and meet Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) criteria.
S.A.A. is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership.
Class standing - Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses.
Grade-point average (G.P.A.) - Applicants must have a grade-point average of: 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.
Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society - Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies. These honor societies are listed by the Association of College Honor Societies.

Education
Pathways Student Internship Program Education Requirement:
1. Must be currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate on a full or half-time basis. NOTE: You MUST provide proof that you are currently enrolled or have been accepted for enrollment in the next academic term on a full-time or part-time basis.
2. You must maintain student eligibility and enrollment for the duration of the internship. If you do not maintain eligibility and enrollment, you are ineligible for this program.
3. Every semester, you must maintain good academic standing with an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
4. Must be a citizen of the U.S. (or lawfully admitted to the U.S. as a permanent resident or otherwise authorized to be employed under Immigration law, and able to be employed under the appropriations ban on employment of non-citizens).

This is an Excepted Service appointment and may be extended in 1 year increments based on continued need and funding. Students may be eligible to be converted to the Honors Program pending upon qualification and eligibility requirements.
