Job Description
EDF offers internships and fellowships for students and recent graduates in a variety of programs and departments throughout the organization. The ultimate goal of our internship and fellowship program is to provide high-quality experiences (including relevant projects and opportunities for networking) that form the foundation for any individual who is serious about pursuing an environmental career.

Program/Department Overview
This position will sit in the "Executive Office" department of EDF, specifically in the small but mighty Board Relations team. Our focus is on the experience of our board members as well as internal board functions such as maintenance of board historical data and governance. This would be an opportunity for an intern to learn about EDF's work in a cross departmental fashion, as board relations has a window into work across the organization.

Overall Function
The intern will support the Manager, Board Relations as we prepare for the fall board meeting. They would be involved in the maintenance and implementation of the board portal, which is still in early phases. The intern would help produce an administrative manual to using the board portal to have on file for future staff.

Key Responsibilities
Tasks will include but are not limited to:
  • Develop a Board Portal Manual outlining the steps to maintain a quality board portal for trustees
  • Research and organize the Board Relations database for board resolutions and minutes
  • Assist in developing a new fiscal year budget.
  • Organize board terms and board nominations.
  • Develop project management timelines for the next three upcoming board meetings.
  • Carefully and thoughtfully read through resolutions and minutes tag appropriate information for filtering and searchability within the database.
  • Search through files to find documents not yet uploaded
  • Follow up with staff to track down missing files
  • Act as a liaison between EDF and an outside transcription company to establish a collection of professional transcriptions of EDF's previous board meetings.
  • Review and update advisory board lists
  • Schedule board rehearsals and other internal meetings related to board meetings.
  • Support other similar projects as necessary.
  • Participate in advancing EDF DEI goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.
Qualifications
  • College undergraduate (junior or senior)
  • Tact, discretion, judgment and the ability to function in a confidential capacity are required.
  • Trustworthy and able to work independently
  • Strong writing and research skills required
  • Ability to stay organized, meet deadlines and maintain a solutions-oriented attitude
  • Ability to work with confidential information in a professional manner
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office (Outlook, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with the following programs a plus, but not required: Canva, Asana and Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • Interest in nonprofit and board operations
  • Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrates initiative and problem solving skills.
Location
New York City or U.S. remote.

Term
10 weeks (June - August 2022)

Hours
Part time, 28 hours/week

Compensation
This internship would involve either compensation for work paid at a rate competitive with leading non-profits or academic credit. Students are encouraged to seek academic credit or funding through their college/university and EDF will ensure that any and all paperwork needed to secure academic credit is completed.
