These internships are paid and offer excellent real world work experience for future IT graduates.

Pay Rate : $15.45 per hour
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Internship positions are part-time positions for the summer, and some may have the opportunity to extend through the school year. Selected students are expected to be available during the summer months.
We are looking for interns in the following IT areas:
- Application System Development– Program coding, research, testing, vendor research, and implementation of application solutions on a wide variety of software platforms.
- Information Security – Researching, protecting, preventing, and mitigating information risks.
Examples of duties one may perform include, but are not limited to:
- Perform remote troubleshooting through diagnostic techniques and pertinent questions.
- Determine the best solution based on the issue and details provided by customers
- Walk the customer through the problem-solving process.
- Direct unresolved issues to the next level of support personnel.
- Provide accurate information on IT products or services.
- Record events and problems and their resolution in logs.
- Follow-up and update customer status and information.
- Pass on any feedback or suggestions by customers to the appropriate internal team.
- Identify and suggest possible improvements on procedures.
- Assist in the design, development, and implementation of new or improved systems and processes.
- Solve complex technical issues.
- Support the IT Team in maintaining hardware, software, and other systems.
- Assist in the requirements needed to design software systems, such as gathering information.
- Attend meetings with employees at all levels of the organization and contribute to big picture business discussions.
- Help to identify, plan for, and/or remedy information security risks for the protection of the County’s information and systems.
- Other value-add assignments and projects in IT as assigned.
Interns will be assigned to a specific division within the Information Technology Services (ITS) Department based on skill set and business need. Preferred experience for students includes:
- C#
- VB.NET
- Microsoft SQL Databases
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following Minimum Qualifications are required for this job. Eligible students must meet the following requirements to be considered for a Jefferson County Information Technology Internship:
- Student must be a full-time student during their previous semester ( students will be required to submit a transcript at the time of their application. An unofficial transcript is sufficient.)
- Student must have a good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher).
- Student must be enrolled in a 4-year degree program with a Junior or Senior status.
- Students must be enrolled at an accredited college or university, pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Informatics, Management Information Systems, or a related field.
- Student may not have served in two previous internships under Jefferson County’s Merit System (if you have questions regarding eligibility under this qualification, contact Jefferson County Commission’s Human Resources Department).
- Student must submit a 300 - 500 word essay along with their application, answering ALL of the following three (3) questions:
- What interests you most about the Information Technology field?
- Why is this internship important for your future?
- What will you bring to the internship program?

Essay Criteria and Standardized Grading:
In order to standardize the essay phase of the selection procedures, we will utilize a grading rubric. Rubrics provide focus, emphasis and attention to details and act as a guide for the applicant. Below are the following criteria that will be used during the grading of the essay:

- Organization
- Grammar
