The Employee and Organizational Strategy Portfolio is currently seeking a Summer Intern from May – August 2022. The Intern position with the Virginia Department of Social Services will provide students an opportunity to combine their academic studies with on-the-job training and experience while completing their education. The internship program is designed around a project-based assignment, which will support the mission of the agency and the career goals and interests of the intern.
The Employee and Organizational Strategy Portfolio Intern will report to the Operations Manager and gain project-based work experience by:
  • Reviewing current Human Resource Onboarding and Orientation Processes.
  • Documenting current Human Resource Onboarding and Orientation Processes with any updates and, changes and corrections.
  • Presenting a Review of the New Written Resources.
  • This position will also have the opportunity to learn from and work alongside the team to improve communications and impact the way to approach new hire procedures across the agency; and other duties as assigned that may enhance the learning experience.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Rising junior, senior, or graduate student enrolled in an accredited university or college in good academic standing pursuing a major in Human Resources, Communications, or a related area.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Knowledge of core functional areas related to a Human Resources or Communications degree.
  • Ability to work the entire duration of the internship program, May 23, 2022 – August 12, 2022.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills and demonstrated proficiency with email programs such as Gmail or Outlook.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Organizational skills, both analytical and problem-solving.
  • Working independently with low to moderate supervision in a telework environment.
  • Communication with many stakeholders at every level of an organization.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, well organized.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Highly skilled in Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Leadership role within a professional organization, or student chapter.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Exhibits a commitment to self-development.
  • Self-driven and shows initiative.

Special Requirements
Selected candidate(s) must successfully pass a fingerprint-based criminal history background check.

Telework is a condition of employment for this position. The employee may be required to work a schedule that is split between remote and onsite (shared workspace) locations.
