JOB TITLE:
Green Johnson Student Success Center Career Peer
JOB PURPOSE:
A Career Peer is a highly qualified, high-achieving student in the College of Business. They help with resume reviews, cover letter reviews, internship searches, LinkedIn reviews, and a myriad of other career services to improve the career readiness of students in the College of Business. Career Peers also help plan, market, and coordinate career services events. Pay for the position begins at $12.00 per hour.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Peter M. & Paula Green Johnson Student Success Center Career Services Office provides a variety of support that can help students grow academically into a capable and confident learner.
Responsibilities:
Provide feedback to students during career services appointments using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, or build confidence in students
Teach students about the components of professional career documents such as resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn Profiles
Collaborate with the Director and Coordinators of Career Services to host career-focused events
Plan and host workshops focused on career and professional development
Be part of a team of other student workers (Career Peers) and accomplish tasks directly related to the excellent experience of customers
Work with faculty and staff in the College of Business and other career services offices on campus to provide comprehensive service to students
Offer knowledgeable and valuable career advice to students utilizing Student Success Center resources and business industry knowledge
Requirements:
Must be a student within the College of Business
Must be of sophomore or junior class standing at the beginning of the Fall 2021 semester
Must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above
Must remain in good standing with the University of Wyoming
Must be available to work 9-11 hours per week (some weekend or evening events may require attendance)
Competencies:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Deep understanding of student behavior patterns
Interpreting the meaning of information for others
Professional demeanor
Event planning and organizational skills
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
Other Career Services related projects as assigned.
REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:
This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of basic principles of career services
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences
