We are seeking a promising and highly motivated Software Quality Engineering intern to join our team for Summer 2022.
Internship Summary:
You will join a team of software quality engineers whose mission is to maximize the intended value of our product to customers and stakeholders while minimizing risk and disruption to its development. The business needs robust, high-performance software that can accurately and reliably orchestrate analysis of large volumes of NGS data. We are offering a summer internship opportunity to motivated undergraduate and graduate students in STEM programs who have a professional interest in software quality engineering. This internship will offer you direct exposure to real world industry applications of software engineering to the rapidly growing biotechnology space and will focus on developing you in areas where a computer science curriculum typically does not.
The internship will be approximately 8-10 weeks in duration (dates are flexible depending on your academic calendar).
Responsibilities:
The objective of this internship program is to gain exposure to best industry practices in software quality engineering as applicable to the pharma/healthcare/software medical device industry.
You will be responsible for a summer project from conception through feasibility, development, testing, and rolling into "production". During the 8–10 week program, you will gain an understanding of the test automation frameworks and Quality Assurance process in software engineering and its impact on immuno-oncology, bioinformatics, NGS, and high-performance computing, as well as where you can best focus your academic studies for future career direction.
In this role, you will:
- Select your summer project with direct business application(s).
- Create a project plan for your summer project with a well-defined scope and realistic targets.
- Review Software Quality related documents such as Requirements, Architecture Design, Procedures, and Traceability Matrix.
- Write functional, integration, and regression tests to ensure desired functionality over time.
- Understand and leverage CI-CD pipeline to automated deployments and automated testing, signifying that a build is ready for "production".
- Develop software quality reports as needed.
- Participate in planning and project-related meetings when appropriate.
- Leverage tools and technologies to develop, review, automate, and execute test protocols.
- Present the summer project to Personalis Research & Development and Operations teams.
Successful interns will emerge with valuable, hands-on industry experience and find themselves in a fantastic position for a career in the software industry.
Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate will be completing their junior year of undergrad or first year of graduate school in an engineering and/or science program and will be returning to school in the fall.
- Currently in process of obtaining or recently obtained a B.S./B.A. in a STEM major.
- Experience with languages such as Java or Python.
- Familiarity with Unix/Linux or OS X command line.
- Familiarity with testing frameworks like JUnit, Selenium, etc.
- Knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle, Software testing, and programming.
- Experience working effectively in a collaborative and dynamic environment.
- Knowledge of test automation, test management tools, and source code management desired, but not required.
- Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this position will be 100% remote but only available to candidates residing in and authorized to work in the United States. Candidates may reside anywhere in the United States, but must be willing to work aligned to the Pacific Time Zone.
