This is a fantastic opportunity to gain knowledge and skills in transportation planning, engineering analysis, and transportation project development. Work performed will be in-person with the possibility of some remote work. What you will doSupport the City of Hillsboro and Portland State University in studying vehicle emission patterns on the US 26 Sunset Highway Corridor. Research traffic patterns, volumes, and mobility trends to identify historical changes in corridor traffic volumes before and after capacity improvements are implemented to assess impacts of diverted traffic (latent demand) and induced demand (new vehicular trips due to new capacity) in Hillsboro, Washington County and the Portland metropolitan region. Prepare a research paper documenting corridors’ traffic patterns, volumes, and mobility trends evaluating before-and-after latent demand and induced demand for capacity enhanced corridors in Hillsboro, Washington County, and the Portland metropolitan region. Survey TriMet riders to determine station amenity preferences and improvements. Conduct fieldwork for transportation projects and collect data, as needed.Support transportation public involvement and outreach meetings.The ideal candidate willHave a desire to learn about the City of Hillsboro with a specific interest in transportation Have strong ability to take initiative in leading activities and assist without being asked Bring creativity to the team and be able to work creatively with others Have ability to communicate positively and professionally Be interested in developing leadership skills Be proficient in Microsoft Office. Experience with traffic analysis and simulation software is preferred but not required.RequirementsMust be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program studying Engineering, Planning, Community Development, Geography, Public Administration, or a related field. Have a valid driver's license and a safe driving record. Must be able to complete and pass criminal background check.
